Hi folks,

I'm currently giving serious consideration to scratching my 911 itch via the medium of the turbo, though so far everything is online research and voyeurism - I've not tried any to see if I actually like 'em, though that seems an unlikely problem.

I was liking the look of a mid '11 GT Silver turbo at OPC Tonbridge, when I noticed that a similar price would currently net a Turbo S from East London, trading off 6 months and more miles for the difference in spec.

[ If someone can point me at a reliable way to post links to OPC approved used stock that's not session linked, I'll update to make this more helpful ]

I've only been looking for 2-3 weeks, and in that time haven't really seen much movement in the market, so any thoughts from anyone whether on spec, value or whatever appreciated. Has the 991 already hit 997TT prices, or is there likely a big dip to come as the 991T deliveries pick up?

prices have not moved much in 12 months. Best OPC car is the black/red Turbo at OPC Leicester.

Out of interest, what makes that the 'best' in your opinion?
Without having seen one in reality, not a fan of the red + carbon interior.

I'm wondering if prices will shift as 991's become more available, or if they'll stay as they are, since from my perception at least, there's a size and UK usability benefit to the older cars. Haven't found much in the indies at this age, seem to be generally older .1 cars there.

Since I know I'd be too lazy to look for the OPC cars from the info in my first post (and now I've had some dinner smile ), here are the specs:

Both are advertised around 76k, and have these bits in common:
  • 7-speed double clutch transmission (Porsche Doppelkupplung - PDK)
  • Clear glass tail lights
  • Heated seats
  • Floor mats
  • Exterior package painted
  • Telephone module
  • Universal audio interface
  • ParkAssist (parking aid rear)

Turbo
  • Registration Year: 06/11
  • GT Silver / Black
  • Mileage: 10,094 m
  • 19 inch Turbo II wheel
  • Adaptive sports seats
  • Aluminium II handbrake lever
  • Cruise control
  • PDK 3-spoke sports steering wheel with shift paddles
  • PDK gear selector gate surround in leather
  • Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV)
  • Porsche crest embossed on head restraints
  • Rear section of center console in leather
  • Sport Chrono Package Turbo including dynamic engine mounting
  • Wheel centre set
  • Windscreen with grey top tint
  • Porsche VTS - Vehicle tracking system
Turbo S
  • Registration Year: 01/11
  • GT Silver / Black
  • Mileage: 26,685 m
  • 19 inch RS Spyder wheel with center lock
  • Adaptive sports seat with driver memory package
  • Fuel filler cap with Aluminium Look finish
  • HomeLink
  • Model designation on rear lid painted
  • Rear wiper

I like my cars to be heavily spenced. Leicester car has Aerokit, buckets, centrelocks and ceramics. Red interior looks naff in photos, really nice in person and the quality of the leather feels higher and more special .

You have got to be kidding. Gen 2 turbo prices have dropped well over 10k the last 12 months.

I looked at buying and the s were 85k all day long most often a lot more.
Now a tad over 70k gets you one !

Everyone posts from their own perspective, I can say that 09/10 Plate cars have not moved much in price since Oct/Nov 2012, maybe £2k either way.

Judging from the 5 997TT/S that were in OPC Glasgow the other week, there's probably a considerable oversupply of 997 Turbos at the moment from 991 trade-ins and therefore a very good time to buy. I'd be very surprised if you couldn't get most OPCs to move considerably from their rather optimistic sticker prices on these cars.

Much preferred the turbo s at west London - 80k before negotiation and good spec and I like the black and cream two tone interior. Also much prefer the turbo 2 wheels over RS spyders. Only down side was original owner replaced std adaptive seats for cheaper std seats

There's a really well specced Dark Blue Metallic Turbo S on the AUC site at the moment but it might be a bit more than you want to pay.

My view is that, since you are even comparing the two, you really want the Turbo S. Buy the Turbo and you will still be looking for Turbo S in the classifieds to see what's there. By the Turbo S and you won't bother looking around for a Turbo. That's what happened to me anyway!

Values have dropped on both s and non-s cars. Dec 2012 most OPC standard cars around the 09/10 plate mark where 75-80k. Now they are mid to upper 60s and dropping as supply increases. Fairly confident a lot more will hit the market and values will continue to drop steadily.

Thanks for all the responses so far.

To put a bit more detail on where the question started - I'm in East London, so was looking around for a dealer close enough that I can visit easily to have a poke around the cars, see some different colour exteriors / interiors / combinations, see what the trim looks like in the flesh etc, but a dealer that at least had the sort of spec model I might actually be interested in so I could try one to properly gauge my interest in the cars and start to get some experience of them.

The Tonbridge turbo was ticking the above boxes, when I noticed the S at East London which prompted the "why are they the same price then?" question. The S may have been there for a while - I'd been ignoring cars with centre locks as I fear they might be more hassle than they're worth, though I guess less of an issue whilst the car is in OPC warranty age range if that's where it stays.

I can't see any Blue cars via the AUC locator - is there a special handshake I don't know about?

I don't really (yet?) have a particular bias towards the S - I suspect the main regret if I bought a Turbo without PCCBs would be that my wheels were always dirty and the S would avoid that smile

Sorry it seems to gave gone! There were 9 or 10 turbo s on there yesterday and it's down to 6 now. Those cars are good value just now for the performance you get. The ceramic brakes are brilliant and like you say, no dust!
