Hi Guys,

My 2 year warranty is due to come to an end. To top it off so is the service due and MOT frown. Car has done 28 000.

I'm wondering would I be better selling it at the moment and putting that money to a newer model.

I've been looking at different options and one that I have found is warrantywise which have quoted me £755 a year with no excess and apparently everything is covered and I can still send the car to main dealer for the work to be carried out.

However it does say that a max claim of £5000.

Has anyone got any advice on this I can increase the max claim if I want but if I in crease it to £10 000 then its £1200 which is more like the price of the Porsche warranty.

Apparently warrantywise covers more than Porsche!

Regards,

Steffan

I don't think Ive had 1 claim in the 2 years Ive had it. Knowing my luck something will go wrong if I don't renew.

Ill be honest I do drive the car hard also.

I am pretty unpersuaded by the merit of a warranty unless you intend to keep the car for a fairly short time.

If you keep the car 5 years, you would have a £6k fund to fall back on in the event of a major problem. I think the numbers stack up in favour of NOT getting a warranty.

Just selling my Cayman S - took out a warranty in June, and it'll need £1k worth of RMS and coil packs done, so pretty pleased I took out the warranty - let me sleep at night. For the few hundred extra to have an OPC warranty, I'd forget Warrantywise to be honest.

The thing that worries me is if I blow the engine or gearbox. I wouldn't have £10k to repair thus paying for a car that's off the road .

Opc warranty or self insure, I would never trust after market warranty to pay out for something big

Of all the 'recent' 911 incarnations, the 997 2 is proving to be the most reliable, even with intergalactic mileages...yes

Depending on your claims history and attitude to risk, I wouldn t bother and didn t renew on my 997 GTS PDK which to date has been trouble free since new.......thumbup

Slight change of topic but how do you find the GTS I'm tempted to swap mine for a GTS. The price difference between a 991 and mine is to great to justify at the moment but a GTS could be possible.

Thanks

Much discussed if you check the forums, my recent posts and pics on the 997 GTS forum may help......biggrin:

IMO the GTS is probably the most complete usable driver focused 911 especially in 2 wd format......

I have run mine alongside a 991 C2S PDK and 458 Italia but found myself taking the GTS on most occasions.

Forget the 991C2S, capable but too synthetic and sports GT especially with its inert electric steering.

GTS prices have changed little in the past few years, propped up by its obvious talents and restricted numbers of proper spec and mileage cars......there was also an excellent ex owners post by DP some months ago comparing the C2S to the GT3 RS GT3 is what the GTS is to the 4.0 RS GT3...praise indeed!

Attwood, one of the Porsche EC official drivers also sung its praises......thumbup

If you want a warranty the Porsche one is a no-brainer compared to Warranty Wise.

Also, have you got a price for the Porsche warranty without the breakdown cover? Might make for a fairer comparison - and more compelling argument for getting the proper cover.

Personally I'd run without a warranty, although I'd consider a Hartech or Sports & Classic maintenance plan (as they cost little more than OPC servicing and IMO look after your car better as they have an incentive for it not to go wrong). Your money, your choice though.
