had to pop into Porsche Reading to get a new battery for 996tt after the winter hibernation put paid to the old one (trickle charger unplugged by gardener!)

service guy mentioned the good spec after checking the VIN details; mentioning the power pack.....

"what power pack?" says I, rather confused.

"X50" says the battery wielding chap.

well you could have knocked me down with a feather as I thought i'd bought a stock hairdresser 996TT (cab & tip, just missing a pink air freshener) and now find it has the extra horses tucked under the bonnet. can't say i'd know the difference with it sharing the drive way with a Cayenne and previously having a standard 996; it felt quick anyway; but a rather pleasing outcome to a visit to Porsche Centre Reading (not something i've said too many times before!)

wasn't advertised as such, so not sure how that happened.

cars just gone up in value because i've fitted a new battery! will have to get the cleaning gear out tomorrow to celebrate.

best call admiral and let them know too.

Brilliant! I love it when stuff like that happens.

With my luck at the minute if I went in for something for my gt3 they'd probably tell me it's actually an old C4 with scored bores. hehe

Just out of interest, how much do you think the premium is for x50?

And a bit o/t but does anyone have a view on the premium for an x51 pack on the n/a cars? I am thinking of putting my 996 C4S on the market (with X51) and am struggling a little on how to price it compared to similar spec / mileage cars without the power upgrade.

not sure tbh, probably worth an extra £2-3,000 or thereabouts based on figures when i was looking to buy. if the model becomes more sought after it may make a difference that it has the factory fitted kit.

i think it was a fairly expensive extra at the outset, but this is all still a bit of a surprise to me and probably explains a few of my overtaking moves that happened even quicker than i expected!

450 isn't enough, that's why most go a fair bit further with these cars, like mine with stage 2 plus RS intercoolers alongside brake, suspension and other upgrades, making it a Q car for a Turbo wink

crikey, having spent 2 hours yesterday speaking to a multitude of Admirals finest far flung minions, i won't be doing anything else to it until i insure elsewhere!

trying to explain that X50 is a factory option and makes it the same as an S, ended up with the first minion advising it was too modified and she was cancelling the cover; several heated conversations later and a senior minion that understood (both the problem & me!) and we are sorted with it listed as an S to simplify the issue.

It's a factory option, so not modified at all!

Eejits at some places.

I use Bridle and they are very good to deal with so far.

My comp is c£500 with lots & lots of mods declared.

Except the S has PCCB as well - so arguably better stopping power
