Going to look at a 997 turbo convertible....it has no sports chrono

Is it a must "have" with a 997 Turbo and also will it affect residuals when its time to sell.

All help will be appreciated

Hardly use the SC function and without it you don't have the ugly looking stopwatch on dash. It was a must have option when buying new but you can fit the extra boost/torque via OPC as retro fit. I wouldn't bother truth be told. You'd be better off spending the money on a sports exhaust and remap.

Agree with IMIA. I have used mine once just to see what it did. I would focus on the overall condition and history of the car.

I actually leave mine on all the time apart from when in slow traffic. You can notice the difference, i guess it depends how much cheaper the car is without it and it's condition. They are plenty quick even without it.

Bear in mind re: retrofit there are a few model years that the retrofit is not possible on..........

Goes away to check.....

FWIW I would not have considered one without it, due to overboost functionality, I always have sports mode on and PASM in normal (manual 997 turbo)

I didn't know you could retrofit, and the clock doesn't offend me - suspect 95% of buyers would be of the same opinion which is why most have SC

Definitely could affect resale and I would hazard a guess 90% of turbos (cab or coupe) were specced with S/C so why compromise. plenty of other cars to choose from. I would not be buying one without it

True but can be retrofitted without clock, which is always an option should everything else be spot on.

If its a great car I would not let it bother me. It was a must have but like others state it can be retro fitted and you can always map the car anyway if you want the extra performance. I do find it handy sometimes when you want less throttle response when cruising on the motorway or in stop go traffic.

+1

Plenty around, make sure you get a spec that will be easy to sell on unless you plan to keep it forever.

What would be the cost of a retro fit?

its somewhere between £1000 and £2000 at an OPC. Have ago in a car with SC and try it before deciding.

The sport mode gives you more throttle response and more torque for I think 20 secs when the car is stock.

For me its nice I guess to switch off sport mode when the car is tuned as it is a calmer drive/less aggressive.

Overboost for 10sec (+60NM). Lift of the gas (reset) and another 10sec and so on.....
