Hello all, I am just getting my cylinders dealt with right now. The dreaded bore scoring issue has come up for me. It's in the usual place where you would expect (cylinders 5 and 6). What I am wondering is whether I should bother getting the liners done on the bank 1 cylinders too. It is obviously a lot more money and I hear that bank 1 cylinders are not really an issue.

Is there anything I am overlooking here or are they fairly safe to leave?

Thanks

I guess it depends on whether you intend to keep the car long term or not.

If you plan to get it repaired and then move it on, I would'nt bother. If its a keeper however, then I would have all six done for peace of mind.

Who's doing the repair?

In that case I would go with whatever advice Baz and Grant give.

Don't think you could be in a better place. I doubt many people have more knowledge than the lads at Hartech.

What about the other upgrades such as the IMS and the liners with supports etc?

How far are you going?

As said above, I guess it depends how long you intend to keep, but I would do it properly and then at least you have increased the value of the car.

Liners with supports? What's all that about then?

It prevents D chunking due to the open deck design. Has Grant not suggested it?

They're still looking at it. Will talk to them tomorrow about it. Thanks for the info

If this ever happens to mine, I'll get both sides done as well as a load of other stuff whilst the motor is in bits. If you are spending for example £7k, another couple of grand would see a lot more work done. Mine's a keeper, so I'd be investing in it's future. Am sure Hartech will advise in full when they fully examine the engine.

I think the liners Hartech use have got the retaining bands machined onto them to interlock all cylinders to prevent any movement like a true close deck engine.

Happy to be corrected by Hartech it I am wrong !

Will do. I seem to remember reading that bank 2 have the issues around 99% of the time, so this seems sensible.
