Seeking a 997.1 Turbo
Discussion
Hi All
A bit of a long shot but I'm searching for a 997.1 Turbo and was wondering if anyone happened to be looking to sell, or could recommend possible other sources please?
My criteria:
- Manual
- Dark grey (although would consider black)
- Black leather
- Ideally 08 or 07 plate
- <60,000 miles
I'm currently speaking with the following specialists:
- JZM
- Portiacraft
- RSJ
- Lakeside Cars
- Cridfords
Would anyone recommend any other specialists? Or indeed recommend steering clear of any of these?
Thanks in advance!
Stuart

Thanks all.
I've also added Paragon to the list, who I spoke to yesterday and who seemed good.
I'm open to the idea of private purchase, but my concern is whether the car will be prepped as well as a trade sale. Good point on the PPI though.
MrTickle - do you have a view on what sort of budget I'd be looking at for an 09 PCM3 model by any chance?
Thanks again - really appreciate the feedback.

For the spec you have mentioned, you would be aiming at the high end 40's mark for a nice straight car. For a dealer prepped low mileage decent warranty car you will be travelling into early to mid 50's.I've also added Paragon to the list, who I spoke to yesterday and who seemed good.

Great - thanks so much. High-end 40s is probably where I'm looking so it sounds like this will give me some options...
Where do people stand on a warranty?
And another question - how concerned do I need to be about the IMS issue? Specifically is it likely that this will have been addressed in models at this price? I've done a lot of reading on the specifics of the issue but it's not clear to me whether I can expect preventative action to have been taken on this point...
Thank you.

Warranty is something I am pondering about now. After 90 days of ownership you can apply to go onto the OPC warranty if you wish, which for non modified cars is the most thorough.
In order to do so, your car will need to have full PSH, no NON OEM part inc N rated tyres, have never been in Rev Range 3 or above and anything raised in the 111 point check (worth paying to get done at time of purchase to check) rectified.
If RR3 reading, you will need to get a compression test done in addition to 111 point, if it has a specialist service it will also need a full Major service doing at the OPC.
All in all, as long as the car is straight, you can go back to OPC warranty at a price.
Alternatively, you can look at 3rd party service plans such as Hartech or save the money day to day going the specialist route and have a 'repairs budget' which you may or may not need to dip into.
I am considering the latter - on the basis the engines are on the whole super reliable and it would cost me £4Kish for full service, compression (despite only 3 ignitions in RR3), 111 point and warranty plus a Porsche battery. Factor in the savings for future servicing, clutches, rads etc. by staying with a specialist - there is already a decent budget building up for the unexpected.

FWIW I am not bothering with a warranty after the 12 month non-Porsche one runs out
On the basis the turbo doesn't suffer the usual 997 engine issues, and I am pretty careful and meticulous as an owner. Car won't be tracked or driven to extremes other than the occasional Italian tune up to keep the cobwebs off.
Mine had a PPI at Nine Excellence which included a compression test (all ok), it had one range 4 reading for 10 revolutions (so a fraction of a second) so OPC might not warranty anyway, although 9E said it was nothing to worry about and rest of PPI was fine.

Thanks all for the responses - it's very much appreciated.
MrTickle, AdamB - the OPC warranty information is really useful. I'll definitely give this some consideration.
Lynch91 - I'm afraid I'm fully sold on manual unfortunately. It's a shame as there are a lot more tips around!
Any other black leather on grey manuals for private sale considered!

I bought trade from a non-porsche dealer and mine turned out to be a dog.I've also added Paragon to the list, who I spoke to yesterday and who seemed good.

Since October I've spent £8K getting things sorted and it only had 39,000 on the clock.
Don't buy without getting it fully Porsche dealer inspected.
Any quick thoughts on this one much appreciated...
I've noticed this car has just come on:
http://www.dovehousecars.com/vehicles/vehicle.asp?...
It's over my budget, but not by too much, and I'm attracted by the low mileage.
A few questions:
1. Any observations on the vehicle itself? I think it looks pretty mint, and very well-specced.
2. Has anyone had any dealings with Dove House Cars? A forum search reveals mostly good and a couple of negative experiences, but all quite long ago.
3. Dove House has run its own pre-purchase check. Rev range is good. Should I be considering getting an independent / OPC PPI, or should Dove's be enough?
4. Does anyone see any reason why this couldn't get an OPC / Third Party warranty?
Thanks in advance!

Some notes on history from the dealer:
This car was registered in October 2007 by OPC Reading.
Service history is as follows:
18.08.2009 – 11,676 miles – OPC Tonbridge (minor)
16.09.2011 – 15,725 miles – Dove House Motor Company (major + spark plugs)
23.10.2013 – 20,128 miles – OPC West London (minor)
Brake fluid was also changed as above.
This is a four owner car. Current owner – who we sold it to – since 09.2011.
I have just run diagnostics on the car, and there are zero over revs in ranges 5 and 6, which is exactly what we would want.

On the face of it that looks bloody lovely - would definitely have been on my shortlist whne I bought 6 weeks ago.
Great sdpec too and slate grey is a lovely colour IMHO
1. For comparison mine was black not grey, 08 not 57, had 28k on the clock not 20k but your one has slightly better spec - PCCB (which I would want thoroughly checked out due to replacement cost) and leather console (something I am trying to retrofit now) and the carbon bits (minor)
3. and 4. my car has zero in 5 and 6, but had one in range 4, it was incredibly quick and 9E said not to worry - but an OPC requires no readings in 4 5 or 6 IIRC - so ask doverhsoue for readings in range 4 too. Prsonally a PPI from the selling garage is not trustworthy
PM me and I will tell you what i paid

It's a nice spec, and I believe they are quite a well respected dealer.
Ceramics are something I personally avoided as I don't do any track work, and think steels are a better road solution and more serviceable.
Price is reflective of the low mileage. I would prefer a newer, higher mile car myself as I use mine as the daily beater plus I am a believer of regularly used cars driven properly tend to have less problems on the whole.

So, somewhat unbelievably, Dove House Cars has just sold this vehicle. I was mid-way through arranging a test drive this afternoon, and had cancelled meetings to make this, and they sold it to a local viewer (who called ahead) without even a phone call to me.
I might be being overly-sensitive, but this seems like pretty poor service to me, particularly as I'd said I was willing to put down a deposit over the phone.
Back to the drawing board....
