Will Porsche make a 991 GT2?
Discussion
Ferrari F12 seems to get its power down, so why not a GT2 with the engine in the back .... they just have to point out that the GT2 will be x seconds faster than a Turbo from 60mph to 186mph or similar stat. Hasn't Porsche always had a rear wheel drive Turbo car since the first Turbo?
even if I can't afford one, I certainly hope they make one

I don't think they will as all GT2s to date are only two wheel drive so not sure they will but hey I hope I'm wrong
And all of the GT3's to date have been race proven engines made to manual boxes.. but that didn't stop them making the changes to the 991. If there is a profit to be made you can be sure that they'll make it. Esp after the GT3 balls up. Staying true to the origins of the brand and the desires of the loyal customers and bearded enthusiasts in their sparco sandals is NOWHERE on their list of priorities.
Making a car with flappy paddles to tempt the city boys money out of the hands of Audi Lambo Ferrari and Aston Martin... top of the list.

Traditionally, it is meant to be a homoglation car (although the RSR has been out a while!), so will always be RWD to keep the link.
Not really. The 993 GT2 was the only homologation car - the 996 and 997 were just marketing. There is no more reason for a GT2 to be 2wd than there is for a GT3 to have a manual gearbox or a racing-derived engine.DiscoColin said:

It'll be interesting to see if the 997 was the last of the 2wd GT2s (as well as th last manual and Metzger). Xpuffin said:
Sales of the GT2 have always been poor due to its focused nature.
The days of selling Porsche to enthusiasts is long gone, I'd expect to see a weak offering compared to previous models. And a lot more sold.
It's almost as if Porsche have decided they want to make the owners of 997 special editions rich (at least on paper). GT3/RS, GT2/RS all seem to be jumping ahead as 991 appears such a different animal. Brilliant in its own way, but a whole new era - no manual, no Metzger, possibly no RWD GT2. The days of selling Porsche to enthusiasts is long gone, I'd expect to see a weak offering compared to previous models. And a lot more sold.
I think the reason for relative poor sales has been discussed at length on here and other forums, my understanding is they introduced this just as the last major recession was kicking off.
Journalists were mostly scared of the brutal nature of it, and the widow maker reputation of the previous car probably scared the rest off.
As Jason Plato commented "wimps and girls need not apply"
Took mine out last night for a quick 40mile warm up, it takes a while to settle into the car each time I drive it, heart going, sweaty palms and tight grip on wheel and wide awake. Just how it should be - exciting and a frightening sense of occasion everytime.
Will it or won't it bite my head off?... Well not last night, phew survived that one! Till next time!
