Morning all,

I know that this subject has been done a few times so go easy but looking to gain some insight from owners out there with PCCB on their cars (all models) - specifically can anyone help me iron out the following:

  • Do all PCCB (across Gen 1 and Gen II cars) squeal when cold - I appreciate they need warming up but there seems to be real from one person experience to another. Some people report no noise at all, others very bad squealing. Is there an improvement from 2009 cars onwards for example ?
  • Does anyone know of anything that can be done to help cure the problem - I seem to remember someone ages ago talking about an OPC trick to do with the pads that helped sort the noise quite effectively ?
For perspective I am close to buying a 997.1 T with ceramics and even the owner confessed that they make the noise every time from cold and sometimes when the journey simply involves traffic / town driving the noise does not go away. Im really on the fence as to whether I need PCCB so any insight appreciated.

Thanks

2007 997 GT3, no squeal from cold, although does make some noise sometimes, after heavy use they may squeal when hot. But generally quiet.

2007 GT3 RS and 2006 GT3 both with ceramics, neither made any squeaking noise when hot or cold, in contrast to Ferrari Ceramics that were very squeaky when hot and scratchy when going slowly when cold

I've had 2 cars with PCCBs and never any noise when cold under normal conditions, they don't need to be heated up to work properly at all.

The one time I did have some light squealing was after a track day when they were worked hard. Only cure I found was to remove the pads and deglaze with abrasive paper, problem solved.

Thanks guys, I've been told and I'm inclined to trust on this occasion that the car in question has never seen a track nor has it been driving in real anger. Cars is holed up in the city and done less than 18k from new. Could this point to new pads solving the problem?

Mine make a bit of noise sometimes — a good hard stop sorts it out though.

Take things apart and check the pads. Make sure all damping plates are in place.

They do need warming up, they tend to squeal when warm, not cold.

Fix is to drive them hard or have the pads cleaned, its not a permanent fix and it may happen again.

My steels used to squeal a hell of alot more than my ceramics, I would not worry about it.

I have 2007 turbo with ceramics. I've noticed only in the last week or so a very minor squeal at low speed. Had the car 16 months and never noticed it until last week. Haven't driven it enough to know if it's only when cold etc. but it appears to be new.

Very carefully take the pads out file a chamfer on the leading edge. Blow the dust out of the rotors with compressed air and finally wipe clean the rotor with brake cleaner ( carbon tetrachloride type). Also check that you have not got a seized piston in one of the callipers. This system works for me. When all is working correctly there should me no noise IMHO.

Isysman . developing brake noise will be due to that super duper Kline Exhaust and re-map. Mine started after that and developed low speed squeel/resonance after hard use.LOL.

Took my car out today and there was no sign of the squealing. So I'm not sure what is going on.
