GT3 Gen 7.1Nav and Sound System Retro Fit?
Discussion
Looking at a fairly basic GT3 7.1 one thing that's putting me off a bit is the low spec level.
No Nav and only the basic sound system was wondering how easy it would be to retro fit these items?
As it will take it from a 4 to 7/8 speaker set up has anyone done this before? How easy is it, are the cars wired for it (loom)
Will I need new door cards and I presume a new bracket to hold the nav and radio, am I right in thinking there is a second generation nav which is better?
Cheers

There's no wiring to the back speakers . You can upgrade the speakers in the front and fit an amp next to the battery which is where the factory fit upgrade goes.
Sound wise that is a big improvement but not great. If the car has no nav you'll need to change the dash facia to fit a Kenwood/Alpine etc alternative as a double DIN unit.
The factory PCM3 is an expensive upgrade, and much better though it is its not as good as the much cheaper after market alternatives.
One advantage is that you'll be able to integrate phone and i pod. Either way its expensive to get it to a decent standard and its not exactly a quiet and refined place to be. Running the engine to 8400 rpm is much more fun than listening to Nick Grimshaw killing some more of your grey cells

There is some debate over the viability of installing the later PCM 3 console in cars that it wasn't originally supplied with. The unit is coded to the ECU and it certainly isn't possible to do without a complicit OPC and the cost is huge. As for the earlier nav unit that came with the 997.1 - it is really quite primitive and I'd say that it is unlikely for you to really want it. Aftermarket is certainly an option - things like this http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/EMSRA.html?Ca... should make it a viable job (surely available over here too, that is just somewhere that I knew where to look).

Thanks all, what ever I do I want to be able to keep it standard as possible or revert it to standard.Once I get the car I will be listening to the sound track in the rear and maybe forget all about the other noise!
