Mid Life Crisis purchase! - 977 C2.
Discussion
I've finally bit the bullet and taken delivery of my very first Porsche.
December 2008 basalt black C2 with approx 57000 on the clock.
It's surprising how much contrary advice I received prior to this purchase regarding private versus dealer purchases, servicing, types of tires, super unleaded versus normal unleaded, targeting of speeding tickets, etc etc etc.
Anyway, on balance I finally purchased the car from a dealer in Wilmslow :-) complete with 2 year Porsche warrantly and the car fully prepped, and, well, looking and driving like a dream. The Porsche warrantly seemed like a 'no brainer' to me, despite the perhaps 6k premium on the 'private' price.
I do have a private garage that can carry out work to 'Porsche specifications', but would you do this, or only use a dealer, or a mixture of both?. Would you have the dealer do the servicing, but use private to replace brake pads etc?
I also hear that N rated tires are a legal/insurance/warrantly requirement, but I also hear this is nonsence and the tires only have to be road legal.
What is the procedure if you have a puncture? The dealer mentioned the emergency foam under the bonnnet, but has anyone actually used this?
I have to say that I now understand what people are talking about when they mention how a car makes you feel. It's an absolute pleasure to drive, and I get excited thinking about taking off the cover and going for a drive. I surprised myself in not actually wanting to drive it that fast, just love the handling and the acceleration.
Thanks for listening to my rambling, it's just been quite a good week! :-)

You have an OPC warranty.
If you use an OPC for the service, then keeps it all easy and retains any goodwill for borderline claims.
Any non approved parts (e.g. non N tyres) gives room for warranty arguments.
I tried the puncture can repair when a medium sized screw entered a near new tyre. Actually, used two cans and still leaked. Had to remove the wheel and deliver to the fitter. The wheels are too large to fit back in the car anyway, so its a low loader.
Drive, Enjoy!

none of the above
only for warranty renewal, should not affect any claims, N rated tyres are an older design, so it's up to you what you use, newer design tyres are so far ahead of N spec it's like driving another car.

The OP wrote 977 not 997, hence the joke.
Not sure how a non S model is a treat over the S though?
Nice car nonetheless.

Looked at the classifieds recently - there's many more C2S's for sale than C2s - I've read reviews that say the poverty spec C2 is not only the rarest, but also the simplest and sweetest. Just wanted to see some photos of the thing!
Lovely looking car with a good warranty.
I got told I was having a mid-life crisis also when I bought mine..... Apart from the fact I had been saving for 6 years from my early 30's!!
I know it's sad, but sometimes I just park mine up and look at it. It's something I thought I would never be able to afford.
Get out nice and early this time of year, they love the cool air.
