GT3 to Gallardo Dissapointed ???
Discussion
I have a 997.1 Gt3, but before i brought the car 22 months ago i was looking at a 2008 Gallardo spyder. It was a little out of my price range.
I still fancy one but the GT3 is such a fabulous car. Thrills me everytime i drive it.
Performance wise i dont think ther is much in it by the cars i have had a play with.
I know running cost will be more than the Porsche, plus i have renewed the warranty a couple of months ago. It now has warranty until November 2016.
Just love the look of the Gallardo spyder, and its been a big itch ive wanted to scratch for years.
Has anyone gone or known people that have gone this route?

Manual is better than egear, especially on earlier cars in my view. But the only problem with manual is that the revs climb so quickly that I used to hit the rev limiter quite often, and the cut out is brutal!
The Gaylord is obviously more of an occasion than a GT3, but the GT3 is a better, more interactive drivers' car in my view.
All depends on what you are after.

I know, the GT3 is hard to beat. I do fancy a spyder, but i have this feeling i will regret selling the GT3.The Gaylord is obviously more of an occasion than a GT3, but the GT3 is a better, more interactive drivers' car in my view.

Prices are quite stable.
Coming from GT3 I think you would want manual although quite rare if egear get the latest one you can afford.
On road not much difference, the engine pull and scream is very addictive. On track is less sharp than GT3 but still capable. I don't think you will be dissapointed only thing is depending on your build it's tighter inside, less storage, visabilty etc..

I have to disagree on the track point. I went to a goldtrack event at silverstone and my 2 pals had 2 gallardos spyder. First gen e-gear, not super early cars. I went for a few passenger laps and was horribly disappointed. At the time had an Elise s2 190 and a 991 S. Elise was much more fun, 991 was just infinitely better in every way bar maybe noise. E-gear was horrid. You could count 1-2-3 before change had happened. Car felt very very heavy and bloated, leaning heavily on the outside walls of tires which quickly overheated. Brakes (steel) held up to 4-5 laps sessions but just.
Overall I came back very disappointed and happy with my possessions. Maybe 570 or later 550lp would be an improvement but I would not recommend you the pre LP from what I have experienced.

For me the only car I would consider from the Gallardo range as a comparison to the GT3 would be a Superleggera and ideally a Super Trofeo or a Squadra Corse!I still fancy one but the GT3 is such a fabulous car. Thrills me everytime i drive it.

The super trofeo is one of the best looking cars I have ever seen and its quite handy around the track.
I don't fit in them though so, fantasy dream garage only.
any gallardo is going to feel less nimble than a gt3
the lp cars and 2007/8 sl are better
the spyders are even heavier
despite the impression you might get from the internet, 2wd and/or manual cars just did not sell in any numbers
servicing costs will be double, parts costs worse, fuel 50% greater, insurance can be surprisingly reasonable
depreciation is anyone's guess in this crazy market, but will be mileage sensitive
