Not content with just building a 911 competitor just on specs, the AMG design team were handed a simple visual brief. Make the rear look like a 911/Aston Martin hybrid but were told 'don't stuff it up like Porsche did with the 991, especially the short tail-lights, they look naff'.

Looking at the new AMG GT car from Mercedes I can't help myself when I look at it's rear end. I am thinking AMG got the design for the new 911 just right. They knew their buddies at the Porsche design centre would not be interested in this new design for the 991.2 and would be too stubborn to critical opinion that the 991 Turbo rear looks frumpier than a well known German politician so instead, they took the new design and stuck it on the back of the new AMG GT.

They even showed Porsche how to design a small rear spoiler that do not look like it was designed for a completely different car and stuck on at the last minute. And wait, what is this? AMG have dropped the quad exhaust tips, you can actually decide not to have them!

'Since Porsche stuck ours (AMG sourced quad-pipes) on the 991 Turbo, they just aren't cool anymore' - anon AMG spokeswoman.

Nice one AMG !

The bonnet is too long and not in proportion with the rest of the car and the rear spoiler is awful.

Anyway the rear end is about 3 feet off the ground. A 991 beater ? Not in my book.

haha! Hey mate, just for a laugh take your left hand, make a C with it and hold it up to the first or last photo.

Put your hand so it is in line with the rear 3 quarter view just ahead of the black window.

Tada, its a 911 !

The gt sport has just beaten the 991 gts manual in the evo head to head. This is not how it's supposed to go down !

Ghastly looking thing... Doesn't know whether its ARTHUR OR MARTHA.

And then there's the legendary Mercedes depreciation to contend with.

No thanks.

Great looking car but not sure I would ever buy a MB again.
