Annoying situation... 997 C4S 2006

Got a very slight crunch when cold on a fast change from 3rd to 4th. Barely noticeable but likely to indicate an issue & will no doubt get worse
Got the indi to strip down & inspect, there is wear on the 3rd & 4th synchros.
Warranty will not pay out as it is wear & tear & not a failure which I actually consider fair although annoying, even OPC warranty specifically excludes this on older cars

Options are:
To reasemble and do nothing to it is £900 which is dead money
To repair worn parts only is £2700 but feels like a bad choice on a 9 year old car - if 2 gears are worn then others might not be great
Garage has offered to put brand new gearbox in with no labor charge (as I bought it from there 2 years ago) for £4k
Garage will buy from me at market value (has made a fair offer) minus £4k
I could get them to reassemble and try to trade it in elsewhere but not sure it's worth it financially given the offer from the garage, might only net me a small amount more fora lot of hassle

My situation is:
It's my only car, I don't need it to commute at the mo so it only gets used occasionally
50:50 chance that I might be getting another job that won't include a car in the next 12-18 months or so & will need to buy something to put more miles on for commute
Currently trying for a baby too which might or might not happen. 997 with baby is possible but might become annoying. Also might need something cheaper as might need to buy the Mrs a car too, if she's not working we won't be able to spend a lot on another car & I'd want her to have something safe & reliable
I can afford the £4k but it's a pain as I'm sure it would be for anyone here. And I would be really gutted if something big went afterwards, especially as I will possibly only keep it another 1-2 years given the above
BUT if I buy something else, more sensible (I quite like the VW Tiguan / Q3, looks comfy & there are some good specs out there, don't laugh), that will depreciate in the 1-2 years before I need it, more than the cost of the gearbox (although the 997 will depreciate too of course)
Not sure if I've fallen out of love with the 997 now it's had a few issues in my ownership & to be fair the supplying garage / warranty has paid out on all of them so far.

Anyway any thoughts welcomed ta

I would sell it back to the garage at fair offer less the 4k. If you have fallen out of love with the car and ultimately are going to sell it you might as well sell it now and save further depreciation or indeed the costs if something else goes wrong.

I'd sell it to the garage less £2700 - I can't see them doing unnecessary extra work on the gearbox in order to put it up for sale, as it'll make no difference whatsoever to what they sell it for, just as I'm sure you wouldn't have paid more if they'd told you it'd had a full gearbox overhaul, including replacing parts that weren't really worn, when you bought it.
