Did 996 Turbo model exist with "911" on the back??
Discussion
Spotted what looked like a 911 Turbo (or GT2) in purple with the side scoops, but had a huge rear wing and "911" on the back rather than Turbo. Easy answer would be these were either added by the owner, but I'm wondering if Porsche did a limited edition turbo variant which had "911" on the back??
I believe that starting with the Gen 2 997, there was a factory option to have the normal model name script replaced with '911'. It's certainly an option on the current 991 models.
The 996 Turbo you saw is most likely a case of removing the standard 'turbo' badge and replacing it with the one you saw. You can order pretty much any model badge either from Porsche or from many of the independent parts suppliers.
As has been mentioned, only a few specials have been sold with the '911' badge as standard fitment - generally the anniversary specials (964, 996 IIRC).
