OK, so am thinking of changing the colour of my standard 997 Gen 2 GT3 rims. With plastidip. I quote like the gold look. It's Guards Red car.

What we recon?

Won't plastidip peel with the heat?

Gold looks good though - mine are the same pale gold as GT3 RS/GT2 RS.

If you're going to do it then do it properly, especially on a GT3. Get them painted.

See the Cup 2's certainly have a lot more tread in them compared to original cups, how you finding them?

Thanks for the images.

Yes, spoke to Plastidip and they said it should last up to a year, assuming I dont take the tyres off in that time. Will post pics when done. Only £80 to get done which is good value. If I like it then I will spray them eventually. Nice to "Demo" the colour though eh.

Fitting new Pilot Sport Cup's this week anyway. They have ordered Pilot Sport Cups for me, not the 2's. I live in Dubai, so no rain.

I suppose they are much of a muchness no?

Quite impressed. Although I admit I've done a bad thing and not yet replaced the fronts. There's still a slick section just inside the tread section you can see but overall there's much more tread than the Cups. I've been through standing water in the recent rain and the rear was not affected at all. Certainly looking forward to getting the fronts done in the new year.

Only downside so far if that they take a bit longer to come up to temperature and pressure, especially noticeable on these cold days.

Here is the "Vintage Gold" with the Plastidip. Am gonna go for it.
At the end of the day, if I dont like it I can change.

Out of interest, what was the paintcode on your rims? (In case I want to paint after the Plastidip)

Cheers

I think it's 539, but best you check as I think different manufacturers use different codes. If you can them painted it's best to get your paint shop to call Porsche and get the code via the VIN of a car you can identify with the colour you want. I said I wanted to the same as the german press GT2 RS and they got the details from Porsche.

Hi Randompunter74,

I was in the same situation about what wheel colour I wanted and using Plastidip/Foliatec. Anyway after a couple of months deliberating and lots of research I took the plunge and bought 4 cans of Foliatec. The paint has been on the car for 8 moths and look as good as new. I will provide better pictures over the weekend.

By the way I don't pussy foot, the car is drive daily and as yet no sign of peeling.

It would blow your mind how much hotter they can get on track compared to even the most spirited road driving. Even the plastic centre caps get pretty much hot enough to burn your fingers even after cooling down laps. For road driving your solution ought to be fine, but on any car that sees a circuit I would personally got for having them repainted.

Hi Disco,

Agreed, I have a different set of wheels for the track, so no worries on the peeling front.

Ooooo they both look the nuts. Black and gold works really nicely too.

I am taking the car down early next week to have it done. At the end of the day I can always take it off so handy harry.

I will post pics next week. Thanks for the photos and comments. All good.
