Hi everyone,
When I bought my GT3 early last year I planned to sell my Oak Green MK2 Golf GTi 16v 3dr, but having trouble parting with it as I still love driving it, it still brings a huge smile to my face when I drive it.
I also have a 79 Bay window VW camper that I will never sell, had it for years,
The GT3 has the WOW factor every time I open the garage door and take it out and will prob be with me a long time also.
Im in my 50s now and to me i have my ideal garage. (apart from a mk1 escort RS2000)
What other classic/sports cars does anyone else own and why?
Obviously if your on here I should imagine that you are all petrol heads like myself.
Be interesting to find out peoples tastes.

My issue with proper classics is that it is a case of never meet your heroes! I've almost always been disappointed. Remember driving a a late '70s Aston Vantage and it was terrifying to drive; no brakes or handling to speak of! Even when it comes to more 'modern classics' such as the Vanquish S we had; beautiful thing but a pain to live with and in the end just didn't get used. Same with a list of others...

As a result, can really see the appeal of something like a Singer - essentially a modern car with the body/looks of old. I'm too inpatient to view foibles as 'character' - i just like driving the nuts off my cars! As such, absolutely adore VW Campers but would never own one..!

VW camper is awesome unless you want to go anywhere in a hurry..!!!
Seriously though its more than just a vehicle, its also a lifestyle, completely de stresses you, cant beat watching the sun go down with a cold cider in your hand during the summer in a field of other campers,
Only downside is wherever you go everyone wants to stop and talk about it, even a quick trip to the garage for fuel can take half an hour on some occasions.
But different strokes for different folks we cant all be the same.
That's why I was interested in other peoples tastes in cars.

I'm with Scooty - 997.1 GT3 CS and 964 C2 (plus 997 C2 for daily and Cayenne for family stuff).

Would love to add the following in 2015...
996 Cup
1970s 911S (non-matching numbers so I can rag it)

Then I might, juts might, look outside of the Pork world. But maybe not!

Cheers

Man after my own heart.!!
Loving the mk1 had one many moons ago great car mine was a 1980 1600 but one of the first with the 5sp box, Mars Red, now its bringing back some memories,
Had many years of Opel Mantas after that, inc a rare Rothmans i200 and one I built to i240 spec and was featured in the very first issue of Total Vauxhall magazine, way back abt 14 years ago. Also had a very rare Courtney Turbo manta 1 of only 6 new ones built,
240 BHP with water injection and that was featured in Retro cars about 5 years ago.

Great taste indeed. I always thought the mk2 GTi had the edge on a mk1 personally. both are such a fun car to drive. I put a load of effort into one then sold it......why oh why did i do that. So hard to find an un molested example now.

very nice Dan looks nice & tight !

agreed the mk2 did have many advantages but by the time the 90spec big bumper cars were out the weight creeped up and that lightness was key to the earlier car....

built this Corrado 10 years ago.. very special car & sorely missed .. 380hp & 1090kgs smile

Nice combo and oak green is still the business. Love the mk1 & 2 gti, heres my old 8v with my 205. Wished i still had both. Wonderful wonderful cars that could teach many a modern performance car a thing or two.

This. That's why my Integrale will never go.

I just cannot get on with modern performance cars. I find the whole 991 GT3 thread love-in bewildering.

I think there is a 'romance' at times with the real old stuff that look great but are just shiiitteeeee to drive as we all too used to modern machinery. The think with the 964 is u get the classic looks with decent running gear that is v easy to modernise too. Been out in mine tonight just brilliant and tomorrow will swap for the GT3. Happy with my lot

Often thought of an Integrale. What kind of mileage you do on an annual basis in it?

Not enough, although I've started doing the school run in it this year as cars of this age pick up niggles if they sit around waiting for sunny weekends. It's insured for 3000 miles pa, so that's my target.
