My Cayman is currently under warranty but it will have expired by the time I put it on the market.

I am thinking about paying for another year so that it will sell easier/command a premium.

Do you think this is worth while? I certainly wouldn't buy a a £30,000 car with no warranty (I will be selling privately), so I may have answered my own question.

I guess it depends how old your Cayman is really?

Even if you don't get another warranty, you could save yourself a few quid by passing the 111 point check which should give a buyer more confidence.

You can put the warranty on at any time so I wouldn't bother - let your buyer decide if they'd like to spend c£1200 on it.

From memory you have to own the car for 3 months before being able to claim on the policy. Last time, I got the previous owner to warranty it and transfer it to me.

When I was buying a Gen 1 997 I was willing to pay upto 4K more for a car that had a 2 year warranty because the warranty is worth around 2k and there will always be a couple of thousand worth of work to be done to get a warranty put on.

The newer DFI cars seem to be much better put together so a warranty is a bonus and I would pay an extra £2k for a car with a warranty but its not as big a deal as it was in the past.

Personally if I was you I would put a warranty not the car you can push them to give you the 111p check for free and drop the emergency service which will keep the cost down.

This...If I was buying a modern Porsche privately, I would want a car with warranty.

But make sure you're selling privately!

I renewed mine and then part-exchanged it. It had no real value to the new dealer although I did persuade them to offer me 1.5K more in part-ex due to the certainty that it had just passed its 111 checks.

Tip - you can can cancel the warranty within 15 days of taking it out, for a full refund - which I then did in the above case ...

I bought my 997 turbo with a warranty because it came with one from a non-OPC dealer, but would happily have bought privately without a warranty for £1k less if it passed a 9E PPI with same flying colours. My opinion would be different on a non-Mezger engined car.

Of course an OPC warranty would be a big advantage, but I wanted a good low mileage manual car and beggars can't be choosers.

Been said above but do the warranty, car will sell easier and worst case is you will get your warranty money back if not with a premium. Alternative is just pay tor the 111 check whilst still in warranty. Still worthwhile as long as it is definitely a private sale.
