997 GTS QUESTIONS!
Discussion
Hi everyone,My first post here and looking forward to learning and contributing.
I'm a new owner of a 997 C4S Gen 1 however iv'e been bit by the bug and looking at going for the 997 GTS.
Existing car is an 08 plate but the particular GTS I'm looking at is gen 2 '11 plate.
Cost to change is 19k or thereabouts.
My dilemma that I've been wrestling with is it worth it to change as head says no but heart says ye,yes, yes!!
The GTS has standard seats,no Bose and no Sports chrono which my C4S has,Am i right in saying it comes as standard with PASM? it has the suspension logo button and also the button with the car with the wiggly lines underneath PSM?? (sorry for the dim questions but I'm only recently out of 2 litre diesel mercs!!
Any responses greatly appreciated!
Cheers,Craig

Thanks Magic,Just what i was looking for.Searched a few threads regarding depreciation and the general consensus seems to be that both will depreciate but the GTS at a slower rate,Does this still seem the best bet?
Also at around 55k does this seem reasonable baring in mind the relative lack of options? Its a manual too.

I did exactly the same change as you. It was the first time I'd ever re-bought the same model of car, and it took a long time to decide.
Three years on I'm very happy I made it. The things that persuaded me were:
1. PDK. I live in London, and it just makes life easier. Plus having got to know it I love it. If I lived in the country I'd go PDK or manual. There are pros and cons of each, and it wouldn't massively say me from one car vs another.
2. Power. You really notice the extra 50bhp.
3. Steering. I have no idea what Porsche did, but three years on it's still a wonderful thing to point. Not that the C4S was bad at all.
4. PCM. I have Bose, so this may not apply to you, but the sound is a whole lot better and the phone connectivity's easier. It's all just more usable.
5. Looks. It just looks more hardcore without making too big a statement.
I wouldn't worry about not having sport chrono personally. The dashboard clock continues to offend me, and I much preferred the C4S' cleaner one. The GTS plastic dashboard is't great, so if the one you're looking at has leather then that's a bonus.
The slow depreciation is remarkable. When the 4WD version of the GTS came out the 991 was very much established, and I thought I might be nuts buying what people were describing as a parts bin run out model. But it was just so fun to drive that I went for it.
So, there's a big enough gap between what you currently have and the GTS to notice and not regret it, from my perspective anyway. My problem is that my daughter's getting too big for the rear seats and I just can't find a car to replace it with in the coming 12 months. It really is a great car.
Wish you well with the decision. It's fun thinking about stuff like this.

There's generally a good supply around so don't rush into it unless the spec is what you want and/or the deal is too good to miss. I waited 6 months for my ideal spec and in the end had to compromise (plastic dash unfortunately). Personally I'd not buy with the standard seats, as the sports look far better but lack of BOSE wouldn't deter me either, I'm happy with the bog standard stereo in mine. At 6k RPM you won't think about it anyway.
I sold my 996 turbo 16 months ago & have been looking to get another Porker. To cut a long story short i was seriously looking at getting a 997 GTS. But at the back of my mind I thought they were a little bit overpriced IMO. A chat to a couple of folk who work for top indies also felt they are overpriced & will drop in price. Their advice was if it's going to be a keeper then fine get one; but i tend change my car every 2-3 years so in the end I decided to save myself £10-12K & have just bought a 997 Gen 2 C2S which I'am loving. The GTS is a great car but i thought the advice I got from folk in the industry was good.
Have you thought about a 997 turbo - for the same price as a GTS you could get a slightly older turbo.

Thanks for all the advice everyone but true to form i've gone and purchased one i had in the back of my mind.
Just made the trip to Hinckley from Sheffield and bought a 2011 GTS which i initially ruled out because of colour, its Carerra White but having seen it in the flesh i decided it was 'the one'!
Has sports adaptive seats,Sport/Sport plus.Fancy headlights (don't know the term!) leather dash/seats/Upgraded gear knob, and other bits and bobs and its PDK which i thought i wasn't bothered about until i'd driven one.
Should pick it up Tue/Wed next week so will report back.

Congrats. You're going to love it and I'm pleased to hear you picked one with a better spec seats, dash etc. as good as the cars are to drive you do spend a lot of time sat inside so it's nice to have the plusher surroundings and a few toys.
Have fun and you'll be pleased to know that white is the fastest colour.
