997 carrera whining noise diagnosed
Discussion
For the last couple of months my 911 997 has been whining in that sort of rough 'wheel/fan bearing worn out' fashion. The noise was also dependent on engine revs, which had me having bad dreams about the transmission being poorly. However, I discovered by accident that by turning off the AC this sound disappears completely - lovely, quite and smooth. So, that'll be the Air Con compressor then - obviously!
Popped into the dealership in Wilmslow and they had a look. Turned out there was hardly any refrigerant in the air con system. Re-gassed and all's good!. They've also put some diagnostic dye in as well apparently before they do a "CSI" ultraviolet check in the next 3 weeks.
