Not knowledgeable on the mechanical side of things so can anyone suggest the possible malfunction was has caused the electric cooling fan on the offside of my 2010 Gen 2 Carrera 2S to come on? The water temperature is normal and the fan turns off when the engine is tuned off.

Grateful for any advice.

Thanks

Not sure I understand your concern. The radiator fans -- one at each front corner of the car -- do not run when the engine is off. I have to add AFAIK. There is no benefit to this as the coolant is not circulating when the engine is stopped.

As an aside, the engine compartment fan can run when the engine is off if the engine compartment temperature gets hot enough or possibly -- as is the case with my 996 Turbo -- a 2nd fuse is installed to cause the fan to run all the time the engine is on.

Under normal operation the radiator fans should be off unless the A/C is on. Then the fans run at slow speed unless the coolant temperature climbs to some trigger level and the fans then are switched to to high speed operation.

If the A/C is off the fans come on low speed when the coolant reaches some trigger temperature which I have observed for my cars is 212F. Your car's trigger temperature may be different but probably not by much. The fans are switched to high speed if the coolant temperature continues to climb and reaches 216F. As with the low speed temp trigger point the high speed temp trigger point may be different for your car.
