991S oil temp 109 C
Discussion
i noticed this weekend whilst driving 100km/h on cruise control through a avg speed check area (probable 25km distance) that the oil temp crept up to 105-109 genres C. This seems high to me. Oil pressure was around 2 bar. Tried to google but not found much. Anyone comes across the same?
Outside temp was 6/7 degrees.

My 2015 Cayman runs at similar temps...
If I'd seen temps like that in my old 997 I'd have been a bit worried, but the current crop of direct injection engines do seem to run warmer.
I'm not sure if the 991 is the same as the Cayman, but if you select the sport button this brings the running temperature down to just below the 100 degrees mark.

Without the benefit of a third radiator on my standard Cayman, I assume that the additional cooling is achieved the via the dry sump reservoir.
Obviously this option is provided to keep engine temperatures under control during aggressive driving and no doubt has a negative effect on fuel consumption.
I may be completely wrong, but I'm sure an expert will be along shortly to confirm....

Did not porsche also introduce some kind of thermal management on the 991/981?
I am thinking this may explain why you can only start 997.2 PSE equipped cars with the exhaust closed (ie SPORT BUTTON off), including when re-starting shortly after shut off. I'm sure it's all emissions compliance legal nonsense so that thermally the engine warms up as quickly as poss...A manual press of the sport button EVERY time you pull away counteracts this annoying inconvenience I find. :-D
