The beauty of these little cars is that they were built to be used and driven hard, with very little to corrupt the driver's communication with the road surface. Even today, a well sorted RS will take your breath away.

You know what , you are so right - I was going to wax lyrical about how amazing these old cars are but I thought better of it . Being a fan of both the old and the new I thought I may get into a spot of bother - but it stirs the soul that video , especially after a day of driving , polishing and generally stroking and staring at my old air cooled - I just love them , they are the antithesis of the new - IMHO a 991 RS and a 2.7 RS couldn't be better stable mates smile

I borrowed a friend's copy of the new Carrera RS book recently - www.tag-books.com and it really does transport you back to a golden era and explain why these cars are just so special.

I drove one a few years back, and at first everything feels a bit vintage and 'clangy', but once on the move it was sensationally good - a free revving engine, instant responses, and lovely balanced handling. And it makes the latest 911s look so big and complex.

Love it...

I went from a 997 GT3 to an aircooled purely to release funds for a house move, it broke my heart at the time but I actually grin more in the older car for all of those reasons in the video driving
