My 996 GT3RS is in for a service and OPC just called to say they found a small oil leak and are recommending dropping the engine to investigate. Whilst it's out, is there any other preventative/proactive work worth getting done at same time?

Was thinking potentially changing out water hoses etc, anything else?

Car is a genuine keeper and would rather spend the money to ensure it's minted.

Car is low miles (18k) and had a relatively easy life.

You may want to look at doing the diff. If it's had track work it could be worn. I'd go for a straight Motosport replacement

Cheers Steve - car already has motorsport diff plates fitted (again was done proactively).

Small oil leak so they recommend dropping the engine?
Blimey.

If your oil leak isn't the RMS, then have that changed.

I had a similar situation a few years ago and as the cost for dropping the engine is fairly weighty then worth doing a few other things to ensure reliability.

I would suggest getting the water pipe connectors either replaced with a custom set from Fearnsport, or the standard ones welded in place. Problem is they are a push fit and bonded in place as standard and have been known to pop out on many vehicles in the past - which I've seen myself at the Ring - hot coolant onto rear tyres = carnage. I would doubt the OPC would be able to do this or even know what you're talking about, but a specialist like JZM certainly would.

I would also replace all coolant hoses as they deteriorate with age as well as use and the car is at least 11 years old now.

These 2 mods will give you peace of mind to ensure you don't have any potentially catastrophic failures in the future.

If the RMS is clean, then leave it alone. Whilst it's out have the brake pipework checked for corrosion and wax sealed.

Probably too late now, but better still Terry, the OP should remove the car from the OPC (with engine still in it) and deliver it to Fearnsport for them to carry out the work. The end result will be far superior, and the two Matts will find and fix a host of issues your average OPC won't even have been aware of.

Not aware of their service but if agree 100% on using a well respected indie for the work, if only to reduce the amount of Vaseline needed once the bill arrives. On a car the age of the 996 I wouldn't be using main dealers anyway..

I only came here for pics anyway, I felt like the dirty old man hanging around the magazine rack in the newsagents when I opened the thread.

RS flywheel and shorter final drive would be high up on the list

Unfortunately none of the 'recognised specialists' are anywhere near me (Central Scotland).

Have a pretty decent relationship with the OPC, but this is the first real test of their service dept.

Will definitely get the water hoses and all pipe work very well looked at and replace anything even remotely questionable. Will also get them to have a look at the clutch - had easy life and drives perfectly so no reason to think there's any issue.

Is an RS, so flywheel already sorted. Car not getting tracked so shorter drive not really required - cheers for the good suggestions though!!

This. I was there a couple of weeks ago and whilst having a quick look at mine, they spotted a couple of things that even my local Indy missed.
