The clutch suddenly stopped working and it seems it is the pedal rather then the actual clutch. Suddenly it wouldn't engage and the pedal was stuck half way down. Pulling it back up made it work again but somehow I can't see that being a permanent fix...

What is lilkely to have broken?

Master/slave cylinder one cheapish the other slightly more expensive but I don't think either should break the bank.

Sounds like the hydraulic accumulator for the clutch, they are the symptoms that Ken at 9e told me to expect when mine was on the way out.

Great thanks, it's there something I soul check first or is it pretty much a certain what is wrong?

Could someone give me a list of parts, and is it a diy job?

Thanks

Are the Turbo and GT2 systems completely different, the GT2 doesn't have an accumulator?

So I just replace the master and slave like supersport outlined?

Any more views?

Sorry fredt, I wasn't paying attention on the GT2 angle. I should have realised that it probably doesn't have an accumulator if I thought how heavy my old GT3's clutch was, compared to the Turbo which feels like a Micra in comparison!

Cheers Pete,

I wasn't really clear either I was asking the question not making a statement.. smile

Looking through the inter webs I can't see a definite answer.. So Does the GT2 have a cluch accumulator..? smile

Or is it as easy as supersport says I just replace the master and slave?

Don't mean to doubt you supersport but I need to get it right first time, on a tight schedule before i roadtrip the car through Europe back to UK.

Cheers

I thought accumulators were used on forced induction cars because a servo would not be able to rely on an inlet manifold vacuum.

I don't think there is one but I'm confused as it is showing on the design911 parts list.

Are there any other components that could cause these symptoms?

So I told the garage to order the master/slave.

But surely it's just a 50p seal thats gone? Can't you rebuild these things rather then throwing 400 quid on parts?

Anyway I can't find any rebuild kits and am pressed for time so new items are going on. At least it should then be sorted!

Off topic slightly, but has anyone noticed when you apply the brake pedal in a 996, the clutch pedal also moves back a tiny bit (as if the panel they're mounted to isn't as stiff as it should be).

I've had 2x 996's and noticed it on both. Just wondered if anyone else has?

Could it be a different part for the RHD cars? Never seen that happen on my LHD 996.1 GT3 CS and the brake pedal gets shoved by a size 12... The reason I ask about RHD and LHD is that on my LHD 928 racer Porsche designed a beautiful magnesium casting for the clutch pedal, which is superb. Yet, the RHD manuals get a stty piece of bent sheet metal with a plastic bush, which always breaks... Just wondering whether the same bizarre logic had not carried over?
