Afternoon,

Neighbour has turned 50 and feels he now needs a 911...... I don't see him as a Harley man.

For children under 10 which version has the most useable rear seats he has a budget of £35,000 which should get him into most versions?

He may like the look of an older car, but if a 997 has the space, that would be the obviously choice.

Thanks

Del

997 should work fine and his budget might get him a Gen2 3.6. My two children fit easily - 6 year old on a booster and 9 year old just on the rear seat squab. You can remove the rear seat base in order to better fit child seats in. I used to do this and fit an adjustable high-back booster seat.

I think the interior of the 997 is a little more roomy than the 996. Might be rose-tinted specs though...

ETA - the convertible 911s have very upright rear seat backs. This drastically reduces rear seat space. Kids may still fit but might not be as comfortable as in a coupe. I think the Targa uses the same rear seat as the coupe.

991 Coupe, although might be worth checking the 991 Targa as it may have more headroom.

For £35k he'd get a top notch 964 targa. Considerable headroom, and air cooled sound.

991 targa has same rear seats as cab so not so good as coupe for rear room

Point me in the direction of a 991 within his budget and I'll buy it biggrin

thank you - will report back to him.

You don't get much of a 993 for £35,000 anymore - although it buys you a lot of 996.

and much smaller interior which defeats the object - go 997 coupe, but TBH they are not great if you have a tall driver and kids over 8/9 if they are also tall, fine behind passenger though

Depends in who is sitting in them. I am 6' but have a five foot family for the 997 turbo.

Sorted!

This. I am 6'2" and there's no way anyone can sit behind me in my 997...well my 5 yr old can but cross legged.

Good to know as was trying to find this out and there's nothing on the web, so they are just as upright as the cab?

You mean if you are to remain in your optimally comfortable alpha man position - You can still put the seat forward enough to have a rear seat passenger and still be in a safe enough driving position....

We used to hoon around in 3.2 Carreras with young girls in the back, it all seemed to work fine but maybe everyone is more flexible in their early 20s hehe

in the 991 yes. in the 997 - No.
Thanks. And so a 991 Carrera with a glass sunroof is closer to the 997 targa than the 991 targa is in terms of ambience & practicality?

Really?

I'm also 6'2" and I've had adult passengers in the back behind me. Not for very long and not in great comfort, but it is possible at a squeeze!

I agree with TB993tt. I'm 6'2", and regularly do a school run in a 997.2 C2S with 3 kids, youngest (9yo) sits behind me with legs in footwell. My seat is maybe one notch further forward than "optimal", but still plenty comfortable for me. My kids aren't midgets either; my boy is the tallest in his year (despite being one of the youngest).

Maybe another year before it becomes impractical, but a 911 can go pretty far for family transport.

Yes, in my example, I wasn't in my normal driving position but it was a reasonable (and safe) compromise for a short journey!

The 2wd cars have more rear space than the 4wd cars. I think this is true across all variants.

That's not correct. Rear seat space is identical.

However, front boot space is marginally smaller on the 4wd models due to the front differential.
