Ok, so I don't use my 997.2 GTS as often as I should but at times I feel like its a hybrid....

How long does your 997 take to run the battery flat!!!

I fitted a new Bosch S5 battery and still when I leave it for a week its dead. Checked for drains and that nothing has been left switched on and nothing. So now I connect up the trickle charger even if I leave it for 3 days but what a pain. Never had this issue on any previous make of car.

Am I alone? Is this normal? Why do I feel like i'm running an electric car constantly having to 'plug it in'!

Just before I got rid of mine I started to notice that the Battery would occasionally play up, it was 4 years old. No help I am afraid but it may just be time to change it......Battery that is, cheaper option than car smile

Replaced the battery just last year when the original Porsche MOLL battery failed at 4.5 years old.

You should get a couple of weeks or more life.

The normal drain once everthing is off is something like 100-200mA and you could try and measure it with a clamp meter or inline ammeter.

Unfortunately car batteries don't usually being run flat and once you've done it a few times it is often time to replace them.

I have never had this problem even when I have left a car for over 6-8 weeks! I don't use trickle chargers etc and my 986s was over 5 years old when I had to replace the battery my other porsches I have not had long enough(under 4 years) to replace the battery!I think the problem could be short journeys!

I work on two weeks with my 996, any more than that & I make sure it's pluuged in to the C-Tek, normally plug it in anyway as I use the ciggy lighter comfort adapter & it's a doddle.

I'll ask the obvious question....is it dead when you come to the car after a week as in the battery is fully discharged or is it in sleep mode?

Even after being fully charged if left parked for a week it will be dead. Going to remove the battery and put a full charge into it and then get it tested. Best case it gets replaced under warranty with a new one. Worst case the battery charges and tests ok and I continue living with constantly charging a 997 Tesla...

Mine's fine for weeks on the Bosch. Was ok for a month on the old Moll battery, for that matter.

Did you code the new battery when fitted ? I'm aware some cars won't play ball exactly as you describe. My crappy moll will easily exceed 2 wks and still start.

Porsche batteries are made of cheese. Get a decent non Porsche one and I bet it lasts for many weeks off charge.

A couple of years ago my 997 gen 2 would randomly flatten its battery. It left me stranded ( albeit on my driveway ) 5 times over the space of 4 months. The car was under OPC warranty and each time the car was jump started ( By AA attendance) or a courtesy car was delivered for my use within 90 minutes of calling Porsche assist. My local OPC were always supportive ( although they must have been fed up seeing me and my car ) and after many checks finding nothing , traced the battery draining to a faulty infotainment unit that intermittently did not switch off. The tech traced it by feeling the unit ( located under driver seat ) and found it still warm after being switched off for over an hour. At the troublesome time my car was fitted initially with a new battery ( at my cost ) which I believe now was not required . However since the faulty unit was replaced my car has sat on the drive unused for two to three weeks , summer and winter and starts easily every time. When I use the car it's usually for 50 plus mile journeys so expect the battery is getting a good charge then. These are complex cars and electrical faults can be a real pain to diagnose ( despite my cars fault as described the computer never recorded any malfunctions) ......if your battery and connections to starter motor ok maybe worth checking your infotainment system ....good luck...Ian

1 week defo too short Chris, central locking system is meant to deactivate after about a week I think, at which point it should be drawing less current off the battery. Might be worth checking that. I also have a Bosch Silver in the 7.2 and it still manages sufficient crank after 2-3 weeks. Hope you can find the gremlin!

Mine has the "official Porsche" battery and whilst I have only had the car for a few months I have left it for two weeks and not had a problem with starting. Famous last words.....

The thing is with these very new cars even when switched off I believe there are things running which are taking power from the batery ; the tracker for example. If you intend leaving the car for a long time connect a battery conditioner which will keep the battery topped up. The battery fitted to my last Aston failed at 10 months old which is pretty poor though coincidentally my 13 year Toyota Hilux batteries lasted for 12 years before reluctantly failing.
