Engine bay lid strut number

Hello 996 buffs; a question. How many engine bay lid struts should there be on a Jan 2001 996 C4? There is one on mine, on the off side, but there are lugs for fixing another on the near side. I have seen pictures of 996 engine bays with both one and two struts; so I'm puzzled. What is the right number?
