KW Competition suspension anyone?
Discussion
I bought these on a whim from ebay and have had them refurbished by KW. Initially told they were Clubsports and then told by KW that they are V3s. Anyway pictures seem to indicate they are a Competition set. Has anyone here had these fitted to a 996 GT3? If so any pointers or top tips?? What is the main difference bewteen these and the usu V3s or Clubsports??
Where do the reservoirs normall sit as they are clearly not the type that sit attached by a strut to the main uprights.

Ps possibly a little over the top but in for a penny and all that.....

The Clubsports share the same valving technology as the competition range. I have clubsport on my 964 and it is much better than I expected it to be. The damping control is very good but you must be careful that you pair the damper to a spring set that give you an acceptable road compliance - also that the valving is suited to the spring rate that you chose. If you want these for a road car, I'd be surprised if it's a plug and play solution. I suspect that you'd be better of with clubsports as the valving and gassing on the race will probably be too hard for the road
Right thank you Mr Rance. So even on the lowest setting you think it would still be too hard for road. I am prepared to give them a go albeit may be an expensive decision - fit and remove. I have quite a firm set up already with the mistakenly bought Ohlins that I asked to be set up ala GT3 RS. So much harder than that????
Where do the reservoirs sit in your 964? Are the cables such that they are long enough to sit inside the back and inside the boot in the front?

You might also want to try Steve McHale at JZ Machtech. Several years ago I bought the KW Manthey setup from him for a 996 GT3 and still have them on the car. Sorry I can't remember the part number/name of these dampers but they're certainly not the pukka race ones - tuned for the Nurburgring I believe which makes them a compromise. That said, I was/am delighted with them. Having run the GT3 back to back with a 996 Cup on Sachs at the Dubai Autodrome (medium to high speed smooth circuit), there was much less difference than I expected.
In their softest setting, I find them a little firm on the road but then my taste for spartan thrills is not what it was in my youth.

Well i have not spoken to anyone yet JZM or the like as I only got home on Friday. I have checked the spring rates and they are showing as 40-170 fronts and 180-140 rears so I am not sure how that will pan out. They came off a GT2 I believe but I suppose I can always get some new rear springs.

I also have Ohlins on at the moment as I had the OEM set removed. The OEM Bilsteins were taken off for refurbishment. They were to be replaced by the KW V3 Competition set but as one was found to be leaking and the garage did not want to wait for repair they suggested Ohlins. I will have to look up what model Ohlins but will put these up for sale once the KWs are sorted.
