Headlights becoming cloudy

I've got a 997.2 from 2008 and the headlights are beginning to go cloudy. I've seen some cars exhibit this and others not. I'm pretty careful when it comes to cleaning the car and not 100% sure whats causing this (the car is outside all the time). Its just passed its MOT, but there is a reference to the clouding on the certificate which is worsening over time.



Obviously they can be replaced (£££) but I've also read / seen refurbs possible on polycarbonate headlights. Has anyone had their headlights refurb'ed, if yes, what did the results look like?

Done it with the Megs kit.

Takes about an hour per side. Good as new.

Nothing a decent detailer wouldn't be able to address.

A pea sized bit of toothpaste on a wet cloth, rub on lights for 2 minutes, good as new. Worked for me many times

Just had mine machine polished with a good cutting compound to remove what was left of the cloudy UV coating the lights are coated in from new. There are many ways of fixing this from purpose made kits to wet sanding and polishing, all depends on the severity really.

It's a common issue with cars left out in the sun over many years. Will pop up a before and after when I get chance.

obviously by machine polishing (or with toothpaste...) you will lose the UV coating totally; and a small bit of the plastic surface.
you'll also find that they need doing more frequently as a result of this.
My other halfs WRX STi needs them doing about 3 times a year - it's kept outside 100% (it does have a garage space, but hasn't managed to drive itself in yet...)
