Advice re creaky clutch
Discussion
I need advice dear 996 owners. My gen 1 996 C4 has just had a 48,000 mile-class major service (at c78,000 miles) and the advisory notes have gems such as;
- Rear main oil seal leaking
- Clutch creaking
- Front drive shaft seals leaking
- O/S F shock absorber slightly corroded & bump stop torn
- N/S F shock absorber creaking/corroded
- Both A.C condensers leaking
- Bank 1 cam cover leaking slightly
- Rear brake disks corroded on inner faces (pads have 6k left approximately)
Oh gosh, I thought, I have to have the clutch replaced and rear main oil seal fixed at once. It means engine-out and big bucks. Gulp. Cancel London - Berlin trip.
But do I have to have the clutch replaced at once? What does a creaking clutch mean?
And there are no oil leak signs on the garage floor underneath the car. So I'm a bit puzzled. What should I do?
Any suggestions will be gratefully and attentively received.
Chris.

Sounds like an OPC service and advisory notes to me.
You can pretty much ignore most if not all of it. Take it to an Indy and get a second opinion

My clutch pedal creaked in my gen 1 996, think the solution was a bit of grease on a spring (helper spring??)
It is very common, there is an updated clutch release arm that fixes the problem.

Fit one when you change the clutch, in the meantime turn the radio up.
