997.2 Turbo mod/tune
Discussion
Hi,
I'm about to fit a new full exhaust system, IPD plenum, high flow filter and light tune. And I can't wait btw!! In having this work carried out I'll be pretty much voiding my remaining OPC drive train warranty. I'm fairly relaxed about this as I'm fairly certain such a level of tune isn't going to grenade my engine or indeed lead to any complications.
Reading through various forums tuning is akin to holding a crucifix up to Dracula for some owners. They seem to vehemently oppose it and insist the car should remain bog stock forever. I'm not saying they're wrong, each to their own and all that, but why the opposition?? Does it de value your car? Or do people love the OPC warranty? I can't see the harm in professional upgrades to unlock a bit more poke. Especially as there is tons more inside a modern engine.
I would have thought that 'superior to OE' mods were a good thing. Thanks for any input/thoughts/opinions.
Cheers, Paul.

Depends who is doing the mods, if it someone I trusted I would see exhaust as a plus and be neutral on the rest. None would add any value.
Why does it put some off? Because anyone who wants extra power from such a car could be a traffic light caner with little mechanical respect. You may not be, I am not, owners of standard cars could be - but that is the concern IMHO

It will be 9e. About the most respected out there from what I can gather. Definitely not a traffic light hero. And as a life long engineer I have lots of mechanical sympathy and have a very good idea regarding good and bad maintenance. Why does it put some off? I don't want to go banzai with power figures as I'd like to keep the car's excellent handling character rather than being sideways out of every bend. But a bit more mid range punch will be nice.
Its more beards who object to tuning. Collectors generally want cars that are factory standard. You can't go wrong with 9e although I struggle with why anyone would find a PDK turbo needs more power! They're very fast out of the box.
I'd be happy to pay bit more for a turbo with a quality exhaust and 9e tune but not sure about the Great British Public. I think the issue is many people like o run these cars in warranty as bills can be catastrophically high. Tuning invalidates warranty hence the negativity. You'll always find an experienced enthusiast who knows what he's buying though with these type of cars. Newbies should stick to factory warranty cars IMO as a car with a bad tune can be a money pit to put right.

9E I would trust, use them myself to maintenance. and if I mod I will only use themI don't want to go banzai with power figures as I'd like to keep the car's excellent handling character rather than being sideways out of every bend. But a bit more mid range punch will be nice.
I have no reason to doubt your credentials or character, but reality is I would if you were selling me a car and I didn't know you. Even more so if I as buying a modded car via a dealer, so I couldn't even get an impression of the previous owner.

Truth is I'm not interested in resale. I bought the car for me, not the next guy. I'll hopefully keep it for 10 years + and yes, its gonna be a rolling project garage queen. I won't be running it through winter that's for sure. It'll be tucked away in my heated garage.
Thanks for the insight, cheers. Paul.
Best way to sell a modded car would be through the like of JZM or RPM, both seem to have decent success retailing cars with well thought out upgrades. I think the fact a respected third party vouches for the car helps massively. You will of course have to pay SOR fee or just let them take their margin. Private sale of a modded car is difficult I think.
