As much as I respect and love 911s (and the R is a great one), I'd have the Aston; it just seems more lovable and engaging.

Steering feel is better in the Aston he says

Then later says steering is perfect in the R

Cannot have it both ways !!

Good vid though, but is the EPS really as good as he says If the Astons feels better ?

No reason the 991 gen 2 GT3 should not just be an R with a wing so all looks good for the next one.

The R pretty much seems to nail it where the GT4 we were conned on a few parts esp the engine and gearbox !!

What was interesting was something i spotted on Harris's Twitter feed the other day. He said the 991.2 Turbo (non S) was in his opinion the best Porsche 911 on the market & he made specific reference to this including the 911R.

It seems like you are not happy with your GT4, you never seem to say anything really positive about it confused

Thats probably just help Porsche placate customers who can afford both Turbo S and R and have their noses put out of joint that Porsche won't give them an R. An R or GT3 are on a different level to a turbo in terms of tactility and excitement nor does turbo have a manual gearbox. Its also difficult to define what "best" means.

I saw the Twwet and thought about his comments in his recent video at Kylami that the Turbo has always been underrated and unloved, compared to the GT cars and that the turbocharged 991.2 Carreras are a 'miss' whereas the 991 Turbo is most definitely a 'hit'.

Not really fair to mention a 991 R and Turbo S in the same conversation, from a fun interactive prospective. The Turbo is about the best DD around imv, its quiet, refined, comfortable, you can hold a conversation in it, drive it any weather, turn up on track day press a few buttons and mix it with any car outside the top 3.....

The R, has about the best throttle pick up on any road car I have owned/driven. Feels more like another 10% bhp over the 91 RS, no doubt due to the SMFW, the box just can not be bettered on any MT imv. As good as the one in the GT4 is, its like a Box in a Van compared to the R..

Whist I would not want to be on track in an R, and the Turbo S would be my choice as long distance car. For a 2 hrs blast round mountain roads, from a fun interaction, emotive point. The R imv has no equal, 918 included. Only downside is its so loud inside.
IMO

I know it's all about the gearbox, but i would love to see how the R drives next to a GT3 because, from where i'm sitting, i fail to see how they can be all that different to drive (of why people need to dribble on about the R as if it's some kind of game changer).

991r is my perfect car. Shame they are a PR exercise/halo car and not real.

My thoughts exactly. Porsche could sell a hatful of them, likely still at a grossly inflated price if they didn't limit the build numbers.

I'm getting a bit annoyed with it all now. ... been trying to buy a gt3 from list for years.. because I want a 991 gt3... I don't want to buy 20 other first just to qualify. I don't want to flip it to make a fast buck, I want to own it and drive it and spec it myself from new. Clearly.... never gonna happen. Happy to pay list price, happy to do a deal on my mint 997 gt3 CS as a sweetener but nope...

Too many 911's really. Can't knock Porsche for cashing in though.
I'd have the Aston though. Lovely car.

The R could have been 'the' enthusiasts car, rather than a token-teaser, halo model. Arguably, they'd have made a lot more money.

They could then happily justify the non-manual GT3 and 3RS being the full-on, no-compromise, built-for-speed track day motor.

My feelings too. Id have bought a new GT3 had I been able. Puts me right off a brand that produces such amazing cars but in such limited numbers as to make the purchase overly expensive and difficult. Im not prepared to pay significantly over list for one.

Porsche as a brand becomes a turn off when they dangle the carrot but can only supply the lesser brethren. Why should I care what halo products they're capable of producing if I cant buy one (a sensible money)!

The issue is with Porsche that I see, is that people now come to them not just as drivers cars but as investments.
For some reason they have gone up to hysterical prices for some models, certainly the GT range.

I can't help but think that many of you who is a Porsche GT owner all bear a certain amount of blame.

You don't want to lose thousands in depreciation so you buy a very technically good car which is almost certainly guaranteed not to lose you money, because it's limited production and has this halo around it.
But then when you do buy them, some owners think "I can make an easy 20k and drive around in my new Porsche for a few months while doing so", and flip them on at over the top prices.

Then as a few start doing it, the rest follow (who wouldn't want more money).

Porsche GT models aren't sportscars anymore, they're collectors items unfortunately.

RE the video, it was great as per typical Monkey and I think I'd go for the Aston. I'm sure the 911R is a "better" car but the Porsche's of the last 5 years always seem cold to me.
