Trickle charger connection 991 definitive info needed

Hi All

Can anyone give me the definitive info on where you can plug in a trickle charger on a 991.

Theres no 'smokers package but there are 2 x 12v 'outlets'.

I've scoured the internerd but cannout find any definitive answer.

The OPC states 'plug in to the outlets' which seems odd
The user manual doesn't say anything other than ask an authoris dealer.

With the 997 I had, I just used the cigarette lighter socket.

Anyone with a 991 that has experience & can answer the question please

I've always just crocodile clipped my ctek onto the battery terminals tbh....i don't think the manufacturer recommends (or indeed facilitates) connecting via the car's internal socket as they don't supply an appropriate 'male' fixture. sorry can't be of more assistance!

I'll try hunt out the original box as I'm sure it came with the clips. If not I'll have to look at buying some!

I'll be honest with you and say i wouldnt know if they are or not.

I called the local OPC and they have the adapter for my current charger for £20 posted. Pain to crocodile clip to the battery but needs must.

If the 991's are the same as 981's then the 12V sockets are only live for about 30 mins after switching ignition off, so plugging in here to charge won't work. I have permanently connected the ctek leads to the battery on my Cayman so that I can quickly connect to it via the inline plug/socket.

Certainly my opc recommends using the internal outlet rather than the terminal posts. I have a CTek which is connected when my 991 is left for several weeks. CTek supply a number of connectors and include a plug to fit if you have the smokers package.

The neatest way I'd imagine is the CTEK terminations hard wired direct to the battery so you just have a single plug to connect. You get the hard wire terminations with the CTEK kit normally - Google Images is your friend.

There will likely be a gap somewhere for the wire to let you shut the bonnet, maybe up by the wipers, so you don't trap the wire.

Yep, no smokers package unfortunately.

At the moment ive taken delivery of the adapter for the porsche trickle charger which uses crocodile clips. £20 from an OPC so not bad really.

Id rather hard wire it personally so will have to look at the ctek ones. No doubt ill have to remove them come warranty renewal time but thats in a couple of years so alls good

Hard wire to the battery terminals, aim the wire toward the screen, put the battery cover back on. The plug for the Ctek will be easily accessible and can be tucked under bonnet edge out of sight when not in use.

Worked fine on my C4S.

Thats exactly what i have done , the connector is under the corner of the bonnet near the drivers side A post . Just make sure you route it so it doesn't get trapped by the hinge or strut .
Oh and make sure you use the waterproof plug when its not connected to the charger .

Ok, so the 'adapter came in the post a couple of nights ago & either im doing something wrong or the adapter is not working with the porsche charger!!!

Without the adapter connected i have a green light on the charger

When i connect the adapter and attach to the battery terminals i have;
Car symbol amer light
A flashing amber light on the 'half empty battery' symbol.
Green light on empty battery symbol

The car starts fine though!


Any ideas please? I've had the charger so long i do not have the manual with it but i know it was working fine last month.
