997.1 turbo , 997.2s , 997.2 4s
Discussion
I would like your help choosing....
I currently own an M5 E39, with lower gearratio and a 40% lsd. I like the power , the smoothness, the easy way going sideways .
I would like to purchase a 911 . In my country ( Greece) the used cars are not many , and because of crazy taxes even the old models keep high prices . I ended up in 911 model because also of rear seats ... for children .
I have to choose from the following :
997.1 turbo tiptronic start from 67000 euros ( around 60000 pounds) 2007 models from 60.000 kms
997.1 turbo manual only one car availiable . 79000 euros ( 70000 pounds ) 2007 model 60.000 kms
997.2 carrera s pdk . 2 cars available . 73000 euros and 74500 euros . 2009 models 60.000 kms and 28.000 kms.
997.2 carrera 4s pdk. 1 car availiable... 71000 euros (62000 pounds ) 2009 model 80000 kms
I really would like a rwd naturally aspired car , but i am afraid that the power will not be significant more than the current m5 . The torque combined with the short ratio gives the impression of something very powerfull.
On the other hand i read lot for the 997 turbo... that wuth tiptronic is perfect for straight line performance , but for corner fun... better choose a manual... where also must be done a lot of suspension tweaks to be proper.
Carrera 4s is fun to drive in corners ( playfull ) or just clinical ? My father used to have a 996 4s that was fun to drive . In 997.2 i read that the awd system is new , faster , better but maybe not as fun as before.
I do not want the car to make everything by each own... i want to be part of the driving ... to be able to select if i want to steer with throttle
So...
Will the carrera s be enough ?
Should i try an older turbo ?
I have done a lot of search in forums.... but i would like your opinions ...
Thank you all in advance

First car I would dismiss from those is the 997.2 4S PDK given what you said and the fact you live in a country that is bone dry for most of the year the 4wd is going to be of limited use to you. Unless of course you live up in the Northern Mountains near one of the ski resorts!
Out of those cars without a doubt I would be focusing on the 997.1 Turbo in Manual where the 4wd will help you get that power down. You really don't need 4wd in a Carrera...unless its wet and its a daily driver.
I'd also look and see if you can find a 997 GTS ? 30 bhp more than a Carrera S and if you can get a "2" with a manual box would be a great car for where you live.
From memory an E39 M5 makes 400 bhp ? Fantastic car but a 997 Turbo will feel considerably quicker and better in the corners...even having tweaked yours. Even a standard 997 Carrera would feel much more alive especially in the corners.

You are right... i do not need 4wd . I am also concerned if the 4wd takes out the fun factor.
I remember from previous subaru experience in order to get some fun, i should found slippery conditions ( rain, snow etc ) that are not common....
This is why i was looking for rwd... unfortunately no GTS in the market.
I read that 1st gear is very short in 997.1 tutbo manual.. maybe a good thing...
I like to have some oversteer moments in corners in second or third gear...
Does anyone know how low ( in kms/hour and in rpms ) the second and third gear have power and not turbo lag ?
Is the 4wd system of the turbo easy to play?
