997.2 GT3 - First impressions

Just managed to source and take ownership of a very attractive white 997.2 GT3. It's comfort spec, would of preferred buckets but very limited available cars out of there. Purchased from OPC with 22,000 miles.
I'm lucky enough to have owned a few stunning cats last few years , including R8 V10, 458 Italia and a 991 GT3, although that was sold after 3 months!
On first drive I was surprised to feel how compact the car is, very easy to place on the road. The comfort seats are fantastic, a great surprise to me. The raw feel of engine, heavy transmission when cold is exactly why I wanted this 7 year old car. Even though temperatures are below 6c , tyres cope far better than expected. Outright performance may be less than previous cars but frankly I would not be dissapointed if it was 20-30 BHP less, there is still far more speed than needed for road.
Can't really comment on how it handles until more seat time and Warner weather, but god I love the raw experience this car is giving me. I look forward to mastering the transmission, perfecting heel and tow downshifts and leaning on the edge of its limits. Clearly I won't be able to achieve this but will have a ball trying and learning !!

That must be the white one in Portsmouth - looks a very nice car and a good price - congratulations.
Means that there is currently only 1 997.2GT3 for sale on PH - the grey one in Solihull.

Yes it is the Portsmouth car. I was quite taken aback by lack of RHD cars.
Car is in great condition with new disks and pads all round. Would like to freshen up Alacantara wheel, I'll do some research .
I understand previous owner has gone into guards red 997.2 GT3 .
Only grown so far is long gearing, it's got enough torque anyway, but would love the RS gearing setup.

Congratulations - the perfect New Year present.
You are so right about the feel of these cars, they give a very different driving experience - so tactile. The gearing is long and you need to be above 5000 rpm to get them buzzing - it 's not a lazy driver's car as you do need to drive it to get the most out of them. My daily is a Golf R and that's very different - lots of low down turbo umph but it's all over by 6500 rpm.
What tyres are you on ? I've been using Pirelli Corsa since new and have been happy with them but might try Cup 2s next to compare

They're Michelin cup 2's. Driving in 3c today I found them quite good. When grip is low you can start to feel front end washing away but I'm taking it easy right now, bedding brakes in, trying to feel how car behaves. Can't feel rear end grip quite yet but not pushing at all to be honest. I really wanted buckets but really surprised how comfort seats hold you in. Very happy so far, will be no garage queen
It's a slightly different driving style - braking into the corner helps get more weight onto the front tyres and the thing you'll notice when you start driving hard is just how much the car moves around.
If you're using it during the winter please remember that these have no underseal so it'll need a really good, regular jet washing to get any salt off. Supposedly saved 20kgs but a bit of a PITA!

Uploaded "dull" images of my new car. Nothing but dull too drive though! I'm still extremely surprised how well the Cup 2's are coping in current weather. The front end gives so much feedback, too early on power (say prior to apex) you start to feel the push wide. But its so good at telling you what's going on there is no drama whatsoever. Not sure where the back end is yet in terms of grip but having a lot of fun learning about this car. Planning on some day to day driving in traffic this week so interested how usable this machine will be. Will keep you posted.
I'm not sure about the GT4 or the 991 GT3 but the 997.1 and 997.2 didn't have underseal ( or underbody protection if you prefer to call it that!)
Having see the amount of salt they throw on the roads round here at the slightest hint of frost, mine stays in the garage until all the salt has gone.

Be interesting to see how long it takes to sell....I have a feeling it wont take that long. I hope I am proved wrong as it means there's more chance of me buying one in the future!

And how exactly do you jetwash the bottom of a GT3 when it is so low to the ground and has undertrrays covering the metal bits? I'm asking because I also have a GT3, and am reluctant to drive it during e winter months.
Karcher do a chassis washer attachment - like an upturned rainforest shower head on wheels with a hinged lever. Don't know if it fits under a GT3 - it's about 4 inches high.
