996 wheel nuts - corroding

Bit of an irritating thing when the rest of the car looks spotless and then wheel nuts spoil the picture. What do you guys do, take them out, rub down and respray or buy new ones every time they corrode or buy after market/better quality ones (if so where from)?

Surely Porsche must see the corrosion on cars that go in for servicing, or when they are doing winter development testing!!!!

Though Titanium ones are nice ...

I've tried painting them with zinc paint and that doesn't work either ...

I have the same problem with the laminated number plates which do not last out the warranty period ... my BMW i3 has nice aluminium ones which still look like new ...

Design Tec do sets of chromes ones too. Looks better than the factory fitted ones, which just rust. The only solution is to clear off the surface rust and then spray paint.

I agree irratating. Cheaply resolved by a wire brush and sliver spray paint. I took mine off and poked them through some cardboard to spray. Some just spray them in situ (preventing overspray obviously).

Latest versions are black and resist corrosion much better.

I personally like the contrast of black bolts so I just use the £9 per set plastic covers that Pete mentioned above.

Have the same issue with mine. Painting or replacing seems like a faff to me so I like the idea of the caps/covers. I'd just be worried about them not fitting or looking rubbish.

Are there any you'd recommend?

Yep, coated just the top face of the locking bolt

They are nice and short as some of the ones available are very long so stick out too much. The tool with these isn't the best so I always order this -

You can get a set of covers that come with this tool but in my experience these are the covers that are too long, hence I buy the other covers then this tool.
Problem with the red type of tool is that the jaws are curved, yet the lip on the covers you use to pull them off with is very square, so the tool slips off.

As for the locking bolt, I always replace with a normal bolt as I don't leave my car parked up anywhere dodgy and it's always garaged at home.

Surely for that price ( ~ £600) you may as well get the titanium ones and save some weight too.
