Hi all -- about to pull trigger on a 991 C4S Coupe and I'm super keen on a glass sunroof but not many options around with one in place. In fact, I remember reading a fellow PH'r complain that his GTS with a glass roof was a nightmare due to flex built in by Porsche to stop them cracking. What's anyone's experience like with these - am I better off without one? If it squeaked or creaked while driving it would drive me nuts. I've found a car without one and want to make right choice.

Thanks for opinions !!

Hi,

I picked up a new 991.2 in February. Mine was a car that was already built and came with the glass roof. Although I would never have optioned it myself, I just wouldn't have thought of it, I'm glad that it's got it!

No hint of creaking or flexing, touch wood. It's a very large area so really lets the light in. I tend to open it by default now on dry days.

if I was ordering another new one I would include it.

Hi. Zero creaking and flexing with mine. I'd order another with glass roof next time around.

I bought a nearly new car which came with the roof, I wouldn't personally have ordered it on a new car, but absolutely no issues with mine either.

Loving my glass sunroof - so glad I specced it on my 991.2, having initially been unsure. Nice and light when closed and when open in the sunshine it's a great driving experience - especially on days like today. Enjoy.

I've had my 8 months and cannot tell you how happy I am to have it, it's literally open all the time, and transforms the light and space in the cabin.

one of the top 3 options for me

The alternative view is that it puts a lot of weight in exactly the wrong place for a sports car, and it can rob the cabin of some very useful headroom (especially if you plan to wear a helmet on the track) but that's a very purist view. You could just get the very very pretty Targa for all of that light airiness.

I had a 997 GTS with no sunroof and now have 991.1 GTS with glass roof, can't tell any difference in weight distribution and wear a helmet no probs (and I am 6'4")

Weight distribution/saving is one of those things that people get obsessed with but how many fking people on these forums can really tell the difference ?!?!? There's a thread on Rennlist about how much the fking Bose speakers weight on the new 991.2 GT3. It's just fking ridiculous!

That said my Manual 997 2WD GTS is 100kg lighter than a 4WD PDK...so is obviously infinitely superior!

Unsprung weight is in theory the one place you should be able to tell but I have never done a back to back test with steel/PCCB equipeed cars and wouldn't back myself to tell the difference. Won't stop me speccing PCCB's if I get the chance though!

Pretty certain 99% of drivers would not notice ,and the other 1% would be lying.

Is the panoramic roof version a Targa?

Nope...the Targa on the 991 doesn't have a glass roof at all...it's a solid/folding middle section. Original Targa has a solid removable roof...then in the 993,996 and 997 the Targa was just a big glass roof with a sliding panel and note removable
