VTG turbos servicing
Discussion
It might just be my imagination but yesterday I took the GT2 out to stretch it's legs a bit and it seemed more 'laggy' than it used to. I'm not really driving it much at the moment so this could well be me not being used to it.
I remember reading that other 997 turbo/GT2 owners have had issues with the turbos and have had them serviced to improve things.
Anyone had theirs serviced/rebuilt? What symptoms did you notice? Was it expensive to get done?

Yeah, mine felt down on power for a while, after an Engine out recall for Hoses done under Porsche Recall. Just didn't feel like the mental beast it did when I bought it.
I therefore recently changed the Boost Recirculation Valves, cost a couple of hundred £ for some Agency Power Ones which are a Machined Piston and stronger spring with less coils in it. Took about 1hr per site to swap out. They are a quality item too.
Also lubrIcated the actuator arms and points of pivot right up to the point of the actuator using the long tube on the WD40 can.
Difference was night and day, back to being a beast, had it Dyno'd and above factory, kicking out 538 BiP and 530 ft/lbs of torque. And it holds on to Boost all the way to redline, ??
The factory BRV is pretty poor and the spring quite weak, also prone to leaks so would recommend replacing them.
Boost response is now massively improved over stock items, i.e. Pretty instant as makes no difference

Do check with someone like JZM, 9e or Fearnsport re the longevity of those Agency Power BRVs. I'm sure you probably have already.I therefore recently changed the Boost Recirculation Valves, cost a couple of hundred £ for some Agency Power Ones which are a Machined Piston and stronger spring with less coils in it. Cheers for replies.
I'll give it a few more miles and see how it goes, such a chore having to rag a 997 GT2 to test this stuff out!
I think the most noticeable thing was the time it was taking to spool up at low speed/RPM - it reminded me of how my 996 GT2 used to respond, seemed later but more pronounced turbo effect when it kicked in, the 997 has always felt more linear in comparison, if that makes sense.

If you do ever refurb them speak to 9e or Owen Developments. They do lots of clever stuff with GT2 turbos.I'll give it a few more miles and see how it goes, such a chore having to rag a 997 GT2 to test this stuff out!
