GTS 991.1 vs 991.2

With all the positive feedback regarding the 991.2 Gts I'm interested to know what those who have driven both think.
Is the newer car a huge improvement or does the lack of a NA engine make the older car more enjoyable
I've owned both. I had a 991.1 C2 GTS PDK, and now have a 991.2 C2 GTS PDK. Mine is at std -20mm ride height, and has RWS. I love the engine, it delivers way more power and torque and makes great noises across the rev range. Ok. it doesn't have the howl of the 3.8 at the red line, but I can live without that.Is the newer car a huge improvement or does the lack of a NA engine make the older car more enjoyable

The handling is a big step up too. Feels firmer, yet more compliant. RWS makes a big difference to make the car feel more nimble on twistier roads.
PDK gear change is now much sharper. The gearchange speed and feel is now indistinguishable from that of the 991 GT3 or RS (which I owned and drove extensively)
I don't miss the 991.1 GTS at all.....My recollection of that car was a slower gearchange, a more numb chassis, but with a nice noise at the red line.....The market obviously thinks otherwise as prices appear quite firm.....
Agree need to make up own mind
What's interesting about the new gts is it's generally received better reviews than expected and I was a skeptic on the reviews given a lot of them were during a porsche invite event to South Africa but subsequent reviews such as the evo 2 gts coupe have been equally complimentary
And now owner feedback is also coming in very positively it's not just new car effect / buyer justification the car is genuinely a surprise package.. on paper it should not be as good as it is
I'm one of those feeling this way I could care less about resale as way over species (118k 2 coupe) the thing and not planning to sell for a while, am simply over the moon with the thing

GTS is too close to the 991 Turbo now - feels like the poor cousin tbh....
why the hell would you buy a GTS 4 , a turbo is just flat out better?
at least the NA GTS offered something else
Certainly a fully specced GTS must be getting close to a Turbo. why the hell would you buy a GTS 4 , a turbo is just flat out better?

Not sure what the price difference is when you spec both to the same level ?
I'm a sceptic of the need for 4wd in a car like the GTS if you're using it in the UK....if you're using it every day a good set of winter tyres on the car for the winter months will help deal with those conditions where 4wd is needed.

In what ways is the turbo better ? Having driven both I prefer the gts .The turbo is faster but not sure where you can use that extra performance .why the hell would you buy a GTS 4 , a turbo is just flat out better?

so why not buy a 991 base? 370bbhp and 0-100 in 4.5 odd? not sure you need more than that tbh, not usable anywhere.
There is really no wrong answer as all 991.2 models are brilliant cars, it's a combination of budget and personal preference which you buy. Many people would agree there is a sweet spot in the range though, and it's often not the slowest or the fastest but something in between. It's early days yet, but for most owners the 991.2 GTS seems to be hitting that sweet spot.
Checked again, the base 991.2 Carrera PDK does 0-62 mph in a claimed 3.9 seconds.
some road tests have it down to 3.6 even.
why on earth would you want more. if you want to go the 991 turbo carrera route, Id have a 991 Carrera with manual and Buckets and thats that!
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2017-porsche-9...
0-60 in the base 911.2 in 3.4 secs; this is in line with autohome's 0-100kph in 3.7 secs.
C&D shows quarter mile in 11.9 at 118mph, which match autohome's numbers almost exactly (0-400m in 11.92 at 189.7kph).
this is faster than a 996 GT2 for comparison...
Amazing results! This may be the best bang for your buck car in the Porsche range! Or maybe out of all production sports cars!

are you really defining these cars by their listed 0-60s, if not whats your point?some road tests have it down to 3.6 even.

It's not as sharp. The whole range is ultra impressive though, there is no wrong one .Just a question of what you prefer ,I prefer the gts above all the others I have driven .
A new gt3 drive may change that though.

When it comes to the same engine in different states of tune where the slowest one is posting sub 4 second sprints - Im questioning the need for anything faster. Whats your point?if you have already done that and do not see any difference you don't appreciate sports cars, if you do but don't net enjoy the differences significantly enough we can discuss further but not based on 0-60 times as for 90+% of people here that is not what will govern their purchase decision.
You can change the character of a 911 to a huge extent by how you spec it....maybe more so than any other car in it's price bracket.
2wd or 4wd
Wheel Size
Seats
Manual or PDK
Power Steering Plus
PDCC
Rear-Axle Steering
PCCB's
PSE
PASM
Not forgetting Coupe,Cab or Targa and of course which engine you go for! Obviously some of the above become standard as you move up the range.

IREvans is spot on. I know people can get hung up on the turbo/NASP thing as I did when I first tried a 991.2 C2S but you really need to try the car to realize how good it is. It feels like a very torquey NASP engine.
Then there’s all the other improvements to pdk/steering/brakes and body control. Add RWS and this really is the most surprising (ly good) Porsche I’ve owned

Never had a 991.GTS, but did have the Targa 991.1. Also have had few 991.1-2 Turbo S.
Now done 2k miles in past month in a 991.2 Targa 4 GTS. Might be the best all round road driving 911, I have ever owned.
You've nailed thew spec on that Targa GTS Apolo..! I questioned your silver roll hoop initially, but now I agree you got it right..!Now done 2k miles in past month in a 991.2 Targa 4 GTS. Might be the best all round road driving 911, I have ever owned.
I agree. I find my 991.2 gts targa as one of the best 911's I've owned and I've had many including a 993 turbo4. The gen2 gts targa has it all in my opinion, 4 seats, looks, speed and a party trick of a roof. Which probably explains why people are willing to pay way above list to get their mitts on one.
