No check engine light.
Drives normally under medium to hard acceleration.
When driving along at 30MPH, PDK naturally falls into 7th gear. Accelerating up to 40MPH, when the car is initially the wrong gear, this is when the misfiring can be felt. It's definitely a misfire and not transmission related because it continues even in neutral.
OPC has diagnosed and cleared fault codes (some were misfires(!) but all in bank 2) and returned it saying all okay (no parts replaced). It's exactly the same!
Engine has done 66,000 miles.
Anyone had the same symptoms on the 3.8 DFI?
Thanks
Windy

Not suffered that yet, but I'd wonder about coil packs.

I presume you are confused about gears and speed.

I'm not sure what you mean about confusing speed and gears - is there a typo?

Latest course of investigation by OPC is bank 2 valve-lift solenoid. Having researched this on PH and other forums, this is usually accompanied by a CEL which mine has not shown...

When I reach 44 mph my car will select 7th and it's impossible below that.

Even if the CEL is dark there may be one or more pending error codes. Hopefully the tech checked for pending error codes?

Misfires from this valve lift solenoid going bad are certainly possible. The DME will attempt to adjust fuel to get the #2 O2 sensor readings it wants and in doing so can adjust the fueling so far out that the engine misfires.

Thanks Rockster and AW10 you are both correct.

It is the valve lift solenoid on bank 2. They did show me a print out of the pending fault codes and they were all misfires on bank 2. Initially, they cleared the code and told me it was running fine. It was if you drove it hard, but not at slow speed. Thankfully, it's all covered by warranty although I do have to pay for a siezed belt tensioner. When an O2 sensor failed a few years ago they replaced both and so I'm hoping they've replaced both solenoids but have forgotten to check. Pick up Saturday afternoon or maybe Monday morning.
