I've got a 911 itch to scratch and i'm thinking about a Targa.
- I drove a '15 Targa 4S at the weekend and hoped for a mega engine note etc with the normally aspirated engine. But its nothing like my Gt4 (same engine)... I wonder why.

Anyways, the second hand ones seem slow to sell yet still expensive... Just a little too niche?

Thoughts chaps?

with thanks in advance

I'd keep the GT4... ...far more rewarding and focussed drivers car.

Targas way overpriced imo.

Agreed. I'd keep both. Totally different driving experience. The Targa could be a daily driver though... Unlike the 4.

I think they're great looking cars and I think a lot of other people do too judging by comments on here. They're expensive used because they're rare cars....I reckom most OPC's would be lucky to have an allocation of ten Targas to sell in a year across all variants.

I suspect they seem slow to sell because people think they're expensive but then when they realise that so few of them ever come on the market they find out why! As an example there are only 100 991 GTS Targa's in the country according to How Many Left.

Surely a Targa GTS would be closer to your GT4 in terms of noise and occasion?

Yes. I guess it would.

But the 4s engine in the '15 Targa is the same at the gt4s. Just didn't have the same sound / oomph as the gt4.

I'm weighing up then turbo engine in a newer model instead as well as looking out for a GTS targa normally aspirated.

I had a NA 991.1 Targa LHD over in Spain for a while last year. Thought it was a great car, but as you point out the weight of the roof tech just took the edge of the performance. Also Imv the ride height could have done with being a bit lower.

Early this year I took delivery of a 991.2 GTS Targa below. The cars are poles apart, not just in terms of performance but also in handling also. The lower ride height and revised damping, steering, make the gen 2 great car to drive in the twisty bits. As for performance, I have had 4 x Turbo S in UK, including Gen 2 since they came out in Aug 13. So the 3.0tt had a lot to live up to in this area. Not at any time has the GTS been found wanting. The extra 40bhp and torque, make a big difference over the Gen 1 NA. Easley make up for the weight of the roof.

In fact due to having less lag and its torque lower down in real world driving I find the GTS a better drive. In mid range kick down the GTS will pull a few cars lengths over the Turbos, before the Turbo S spools up, then its long gone.

I have to say, that after driving 911s for over 35 years that the 991.2 GTS Targa as an over all package, residual value, roof tech, performance, fun to drive etc. Might be the best road driving 911 I have driven.

That's cool. Ceramics in a targa too.

That said, the targa 4 Gen 2 I drove today seemed quick enough. Perhaps m2 quick. Which is not rocket speed but for an roofed car, fast enough.

Plus. I preferred the engine noise and the tech.

Well it's been a while away from PH for me, but here's the just-collected 991.2 GTS Targa.

Lovely! Great in midnight blue!!

Great minds think alike too- I'm waiting my Targa GTS and also have a Defender! But an adventure not the heritage!

Any reviews on the GTS?

Any excuse for old pic . My old man always said the best time to sell a car is when you don't want to . So I did .... he was wrong !

Great car. Love voodoo.

I bought this the other day. Love it. It's a 4. Fast enough on the new engine. I prefer the new engine to old, at least in the targa format.

I'll see how I get on and may order the GTS to be complete (loving centre locks, alcantara etc).
- PS aberdeen was selling a very low miles GTS that sold in 2 days at list the other day. Nice too but can't bring myself to pay list for pre-owned not to my spec.
