Using a CAE or ST Sportwagen shifter in a 6GT3 or 7GT3
Discussion
Hi All,
As above, does anyone run one of these (or alternative) shifters?
The car will mainly be used on track but what are they like to use on the road? I understand they are great for self centering/no issues with 5th to 2nd or 2nd to 5th etc, but I hear they difficult to select reverse?
Many thanks,
BJ

I believe that the CAE, whilst looking cool/racecar, gives no end of issues.
Google it on 911Uk and youll find it being discussed there. Obviously times move on and the issues may have been resolved. Might be worth while checking Rennlist as well as a majority of UK owners will stick with normal quick shifters and arent as experimental as the Americans

Haven't tried those and intrigued by the improved safety of cross shifting.
I've just installed a 997 Gen 2 RS shifter in a 996GT3 - will use in anger early next week to see how it feels.
997.2 RS shifter + Cup cables is a great combo in the 996; really precise & positive shift which simply improves the stock setup so that it works more sweetly. I've just installed a 997 Gen 2 RS shifter in a 996GT3 - will use in anger early next week to see how it feels.
The CAE, by contrast, looks w
k and selecting reverse is a two-handed ballache.
Thanks guys much appreciated. These shifters are supposed to be very useful on track but yes I hear the reverse selecting disability and road use ease seems to be outway that. Thus I think I will go with the 997 shifter and cup cable combo, thankyou.
And yes I do agree that the US boys do seem to be more experimental in their GT3 trackday cars and have sometimes (often?) tried things we haven’t.
Many thanks!

Hi Brendon
I've come to this thread a little late. I wouldnt bother. I've tried them before on track. They are ok but no quicker than an H pattern and it takes a lot to cock up a normal H shift. I tried the quaife flat shift sequential system on a 997 cup and for the duration of the test, it was better than the standard issue holliger box. It fits a 996 or 997 GT3. That might be fun but at the time it was circa £11K. Probably north of £15K now. I've heard some long term test results that were a little conflicting.
On balance and as already advised, i'd got the cup linkage route.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that...CAE is H pattern and it significantly improves the 2-3 shift. Throw is decently shortened and the extra height is great.
+1, I took my CAE off (just fancied a change) and the 2 to 3 gearchange immediately feels much more imprecise and precarious.Gassing Station | 911/Carrera GT | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
