My insurance is up for renewal on my 911 and the best quote (£868) is the same, whether I have a tracker or not. This surprised me - my current insurer wouldn't cover me without a tracker. I bought the car new last December, paid for the tracker subscription which expires this December and is £266 to renew.

Thing is, if i had my car nicked, would I want it back after what had been done to it?! Saving £266 for the tracker subs is nice but not the point on an £85k car.

Do most of you have the tracker activated on your 911? Just wondering if you have any thoughts. Cheers.

If the insurance company does not price differently for having a tracker or not I wonder if they are actually effective anyway.

Would the police go looking for the car with a tracker, or just leave it to the insurance to pay you ?

If someone stole the car, chances are they are pretty professional and know all about trackers, so it would be removed fast anyway. Mine had one fitted by the previous owner, but its been removed - he probably wanted it for his next car as the cost of keeping it going is so high.

Interesting thoughts....my previous insurer that I've just left insisted on a tracker and most other companies offered a discount for having one. But the one with the cheapest quote this time round (and a v reputable insurer) didn't insist on a tracker...We'll see what I do in December when the tracker sub is up, I bet I renew! Grrrrrr...

My last insurer only wanted to insure if the tracker was activated at around £450, they reluctantly quoted without the tracker at £1750.
I changed to Classicline at £450 and the question was never asked.

To me, tracker only makes sense in the following circumstances:

  • you have a rare car that would be hard to replace
  • you have modified the car and like it
  • you save money on insurance by doing it

Standard Porsche tracker in my 981 is not activated. I didn't even know what the black fob things were for a few weeks after i bought it - 2nd hand.
