Only nine 991.1 GT3s on Porsche Approved...
Discussion
I know that there are several more on PH and AT, but I find it interesting to keep an occasional eye on the number of cars in stock within the OPC network. It can be a good barometer of interest levels and demand.
For instance, late summer last year the number of approved 991.1 GT3s rose from around 10 or 11 to nearly 20 within the space of a single week, before coming down steadily to the circa 14-15 level. I guess this was an infux of trades against the first batch of 991.2 cars. But on looking again last night, the number of cars in the network is down to 9 - the lowest I have seen for quite some time - and with most (all?) of these still advertised at or above their original list price.
With all the excitement and coverage of the 991.2 generation in the forums, (and rightly so - lucky people!) the earlier 991 generation doesn't get mentioned as much these days - but it seems that interest levels remain strong in light of the number of transactions that have gone through in recent months and the reduced number of cars in the OPC network.
Maybe time for a few more posts in praise of the first generation cars!

but it's the weakest link in the GT3 range imoFor instance, late summer last year the number of approved 991.1 GT3s rose from around 10 or 11 to nearly 20 within the space of a single week, before coming down steadily to the circa 14-15 level. iffy engines and no manual, people talk about a 10 year warranty on the engines but there is a fault with them and rather recall a 2nd time they added a 10 year warranty (if you get a misfire due to worn lifters they will fix it then) , well 4 of those years have gone already ! nice buy at £90k as long as you move it on after 7 years, but to me they look very expensive. And engine issues will come in later years as the lifters wear !
JZM took this one https://www.jzmporsche.com/used-vehicle-details/Po... into stock earlier this month and have sold it already according to their Twitter account.
If you're happy with PDK and in the market for a 991 GT3 I can't see why you'd be buying a 991.2 from a dealer for £180k plus...when you can buy a 991.2 for £120k ish. Prices of 997.2's went up when the 991.1 was launched and asking prices were £170k IIRC.

To my mind, a 991.1 GT3 with high mileage and a recently replaced engine via an OPC is more desireable than a low mileage car on its first engine.
Its a strong opinion but its my opinion that the first generation of the 991 GT3 engine is flawed and it needs to be made extinct!
I agree with your first point..Its a strong opinion but its my opinion that the first generation of the 991 GT3 engine is flawed and it needs to be made extinct!
And I agree with your second ""strong point"" and I own one. Mine has the F engine not the G..So far,,, so good

You just have to have a warranty on all GT's. .
I never have the warranty, I run 4 cars or 5 some times, it adds up and to date I have only had to have a 65p clip and an exhaust bracket for about £55So I am up by £30k easy on never buying warranty on any of my cars, if the engine is faulty in the Gt3 then one should not need a warranty to cover that ! it's a know faulty design !!!
hence they offer the 10 years misfire warranty !
also warranty issues mean you need to use their battery their tyres etc etc any one who buys a GT car for what they are used for will change out parts.
I just think the 991.1 is best avoided unless it's cheaper and has a G engine, atm they look expensive, it has an Engine design fault which will only show up on higher mileage cars esp the F engines will needs miles but they will fail it seems with finger/cam Lobe scoring.
Only working engine is the G design.
but they are not going to replace all F engines with G unless you have a misfire hence the 10 year warranty .....
Might be the one to own in the long run as it will likely be rarer than the gen 2 thanks to the production stop/engine replacement story. In the long run all engines have to be rebuilt anyway so will be less of an issue eventually - first PDK GT car, first time a GT revs to 9k rpm, last of the reasonably rare GT cars before production ramped up significantly (probably even rarer than the RS of the same generation) etc etc

be the lemon to own imo but that's just my own view, I would not touch one myself not unless they were better value for money ie £90k and I would not keep it over 7 years old either.RS has the G engines.
I think all these new cars with all this tech and RWS and 127 ecu's will be crazy to look after 10 years old.
forget a £15k 996 GT3 refresh joke , a 991 will need about a £30k refresh !!! and a £20k top end engine rebuild !
free market though loads of GT3 era's to choose from.
must say I've been surprised how the .1 is holding value (well, OPC sales value...make of that what you will!)
My G series engine has circa 7k miles on it now; it might be butt dyno, but it does feel stronger than the previous engine.
Didn't get a .2 allocation.
Still enjoying driving the .1 - long may it last !

how do you know it will not wear the cam lifters after 30k miles though ?And I agree with your second ""strong point"" and I own one. Mine has the F engine not the G..So far,,, so good

Today is good though

1000% agree. Our Gen1's are going to be worth a bomb..

looks like demand for clubsport spec cars is strong, i've not seen anything below £125k,,,, comfort spec cars seem to be a different story though
There's also an awkward pricing clash between non-Clubsport 997.2 GT3 and 991.1 GT3s. Much as I like the former, I can't help but think the latter might actually be more realistically priced. The JZM 991.1 GT3 CS certainly sold fast. Was a very nice looking car too IMHO.

don’t disagree at all, but I was purely referring to long term appreciation potential. Which is probably driven more by build numbers/relevance of the car than by if the car needs a rebuild sometime during its life or not. And a 20 year old Gen 2 will also need a rebuild eventually, so then they are on equal footing in that respect.
From a long term appreciation aspect I am not sure what the 991.1 GT3 does better than a 991.2 The newer model will ALWAYS be more desireable and not least because of its engine. I am not sure about the next (992?) GT3 but if its an NA engine and you have a choice of PDK or Manual then it will in turn be more desireable than the 991.2 and the 991.1
