Just to confuse matters, I'll increase the bandwidth of your research to include 991.2 GT3, and 991RS....So of the 4 cars, 997RS feels most visceral, but is tiring on long drives. 991RS is improved in that regard (have done 900 miles in 1 stint sat in full buckets), and it still has that busy and lively feeling on the front end to keep you involved. 991.2 GT3 is a little quieter than the 991RS (apart from WOT), and the suspension is also more compliant (improved PASM mapping).Best value for money is definitely the 991.1 GT3
To chose only 1 car, its very close between 991.2 GT3 and 991 RS. I'm leaning towards the 991.2 GT3 as the engine feels stronger, but then the detailing on the 991RS does look ace up close.....
Thanks Robbo66 for starting this topic. You took the words right out of my keyboard! I've been a while out of Porsche ownership (over on the Dark Side) and have decided I want (need) a GT3 in my life. Has to be 991 for me. So the question is, can I justify the extra cost of an RS when the regular GT3 is a wonderful car in its own right. Those RS looks are just so damn seductive though!! Thoughts please? I've got a decent DD car so practicality is a non-issue. Also, I accept I'll have to pay 'overs' but, out of interest, can I ask you GT3 aficionados out there, what would a good spec RS have listed at when new. I'm guessing the GT3 has, broadly speaking, now settled around list? Thanks.
Had 991.1, driven 991RS and have 997RS.
Not driven 991.2.
991.1 - hugely fast but felt huge. Lost interest in PDK box quickly.
991RS - as above, but turned up. Better grip and far more of an event. PDK dulled experience bar for the track.
997RS - feels smaller, dartier, more playful, mechanical and analogue. This sums it up better than I can ever attempt to:

By the way IR, GT cars should be tiring !.

I recently went through the 991.2GT3 manual (overs market) vs 997 RS conundrum and bought a 997 RS. It is just more special for me.
Plus not being target market for my OPC they are not motivated to even return my calls (well actually 3 calls, 2 emails, and 1 physical visit - customer service seems to be atrocious at some OPCs) - therefore I couldn't even start a conversation about trading something in, waiting for something down the line, etc.
The 997.2RS is 5% off a 4.0RS but 30% of the price (in RHD form). And although for me the 996 GT3/RS cars remain top dog from a purist perspective, the 997.2 is peak Porsche for many people.
If I had the option for a 991.2GT3 slot I of course would have tried that out first - though the 997.2RS would still have been worth the extra. However, on the overs market I think the 997.2RS is even more attractive.
If one prefers PDK then it is a different equation and I would think the 991.1RS is more attractive than an overs 991.2GT3 PDK

Hi there if it had the main bits (I know everyone has a different view on this but this is a majority view IMHO)PCCB's
918 Buckets
Leather/Alcantara
Nav
Then people seem to like :
PDLS LED's (no reason other than aesthetics)
Lift (not needed in most cases but people seem to want it)
+ other bits and bobs - Dab , a bit of carbon , etc
List : £k150 ish
Selling now at early to mid £k190's (max)

991.2GT3? In the UK a high spec car is circa £137k after which you are into pure personal addons such as paint upgrades, matt wrap etc.PCCB's

Thanks gents. Much food for thought.
Robbo66, that Francois Delecour video is mind-blowing! Maybe I need to put the 997 GT3 RS into the mix. I did view and almost buy the Signal Yellow RS at JZM 6-7 years ago, but dithered and lost out. Idiot!
Anyway, to the owners of multiple GT3s, are the servicing/running costs across this range broadly the same and fairly reasonable? I've had a couple of V12 Ferraris and the regularity and size of the bills really bothered me after the initial honeymoon ownership period had worn off.

OK a couple of things - Firstly hello Rob - hope this post finds you well Not driven 991.2.

Secondly : I wish I was a French rally driver - end of. (actually, if I can't be that, I think I'd just like to be French I guess)
Advice on Video - start watching at about 10.5 mins in.
My view on this after owning 991.1 GT3 and 991.1 RS and still owning 997.2 RS
Of the 3 the 997.2 RS is the most engaging and real with THAT engine !!
The 991.1 RS however is an amazingly accomplished bit of kit - it really is a stunning car - I wouldn't kick it out of bed.
They are however both completely different cars in so many ways that comparing them is kind of impossible.
But if I could only have one as a weekend toy it would be the 997.2 RS (probably because I love manual cars - so much more engaging)
If I wanted one to drive as a daily & as a track weapon (how amazing is that) it would be the 991.1RS
I am yet to drive a 991.2 GT3 manual but I'm hoping it will be like a modern 997.2 RS but on acid. (but also useable as a daily - I know this sound like a contradiction but I think it might just be both)
You know what - bottom line is they're all good - a bit like cheese

Agreed that a GT car ought to be tiring, I must be getting old as I like it to be comfortable too...!Not driven 991.2.

Ahyway, I love that video - Delecour is one of the finest characters of the WRC, and a fierce competitor. We competed against him in Corsica in 2012, and managed to beat him over a few stages - no simple task..!
This is a very interesting topic. Working on the basis that a well spec’d 991.2 GT3 will cost you £175k at the moment there are a few ways to get your thrills. A bit older but a 964RS is that sort of money and an interesting proposition. Biggest issue for me is the 991 feels so big and is too fast to exploit regularly.
Given the contents of people garages, would be amazing to meet at a nice section of road and try a few of the “contenders”.
