996 C2 Errant Relay
Discussion
I bought a 996 C2 back in October last year and not long after I got it I had an engine compartment fan error. This was confirmed when PCT gave it a once over and plugged it into the code reader. They also tried to over-ride it to no avail. Reading about the fan, it is unusual for it to ever run in the UK so no great rush to fix (or pay for fix).
I'm happy doing a bit of spannering and fault finding so unplugged the fan and rigged up a couple of wires (Econoseal male and female connectors seem to fit ok) and powered up. It ran fine. Checked the fuse, that was fine too. Found the sensor dangling in the engine bay so re-attached to inlet manifold.
Bit more research and headed for the relay next, under the carpet behind the rear seats. Carpet just pulls out, then 3 10mm nuts to remove and the metal panel lifts up with the relay board attached to the back of it.
To my surprise, there is a relay just laying on the rear bulkhead and a gap where the engine compartment fan relay should be! Plug it back in and check all the others are fully 'home'. I've not tested it yet but have no reason to believe its anything else and happy that its another garage bill avoided!
Anyway, just wondered if others had experienced relays falling out?
Regards
Ian
