I've got a back to back test drive lined up for tomorrow with a 991 gen 1 C4S PDK and a 991 gen 2 C4 GTS PDK (they didn't have a gen 1 GTS, so thought the C4S would be a reasonably close substitute ?).

The question is, which one do I start with ?

That was my initial thought, but then I wondered about the merits of doing it the other way around ...

Start with the Gen1, then go to the Gen2.

I think you'll get better reference that way as you're really testing the differences in power unit - as they are not PDK and 4WD.

You’re probably right, but think I will probably start with the gen 1 and then do the gen 2, as that appeals to my sense of CDO (which is like OCD, it’s just that the letters are in the right order wink ).

Gen 1 then Gen 2. Then maybe go back to Gen 1. I think you will like the engine noise and higher revs of the Gen 1. Gen 2 will be a little faster.
I drove my 991 CS Gen 1 to the opc then had a Gen 2 for a day. Got back into my Gen 1 and decided to wait and see if the 992 was any better. Did not like gen 2. Just lack of engine/exhaust noise and less top end revs. Gen 2 was to smooth driving
Enjoy the test drive and report back your findings.

That’s a very good idea, I’ll go with that approach. Watch this space ...

I would say you are going to like the gen 2 more :-)

as for the Gen one, you are better off with a GT4 imo.

And the winner is ... the Gen 1 !

The Gen 2 was a very, very nice drive, but I just felt more connected to the Gen 1, even when we were doing 40 mph in top gear whilst warming the engine. I struggled to put my finger on it during the test drive of the gen 2, however the sales person commented that I seemed at home and was enjoying the Gen 1 so much more and was laughing out loud at the way it seemed to be telepathically predicting what I wanted to do and when I wanted to do it, way more than in the gen 2. And the gen 1 wasn't even a GTS, "just" a C4S.

They are going to get a gen 1 GTS in for me to try from one of their other dealers, however they are also getting a gen 1 GT3 in at the weekend (as a part-ex against a gen 2 GT3), so I'm booked in to drive that next week too. Watch this space ...

Ha ha - probably the best advice and exactly what I did ... there is something magical that happens in the back of these cars north of 6500rpm biggrin

Could well have been the case. I certainly noticed that the gen 2 was a lot more progressive in it's power delivery than my M4, however the gen 1 seemed to on another level and just wired straight into my thought processes.

Dangerous territory. If you liked the gen 1 over the gen 2 then you will most likely be blown away by the GT3 biggrin. That could turn into an expensive test drive wink

I know. That's what I'm worried about. To top it all, the GT3 was first registered on my birthday ...

Depending on your requirements, the price differential between the 991 GTS and GT3 isn't as big as it used to be.

Just saying... wink

True - 991.1 GTS circa £85k to £90k, 991.1 GT3 £112k (cheapest OPC one in country)

Yep, you know you're in trouble when you're already figuring out how to massage the figures into your conscience and write the additional interest payments off against the stronger residuals of the GT3 ... typecoffee
