Have just got 2 rear tyres for 1998 996 C2
Michelin PS2 255-40-17-N3
from ATS Felixstowe.
Good people in there and very good price. ( £100 per tyre cheaper than OPC )

In recent months I've replaced all four of mine (N-rated Contis) with non-N rated Pilot Sport 4.

Very very happy with them in terms of feel, feedback and noise and in making this decision, was conscious of the fact that these cars are far out of warranty, no eligible for extended warranty and that no tyre has been Porsche homologated in the relevant sizes for more than 10 years now so N rated tyres are pretty old tech.

Get the Pilot Sport 4s - I fitted all 4 about a month ago and they've transformed the car for me

I have an early car with 265/35/18 rears (on 10J rims), should I be moving to 285/30 when I get the chance ?

I too have the 265 rears (sport pack hollow spoke 18" wheels) and feel the last thing it needs is more rubber, especially on something as grippy as the PS4!
Far better to keep the original spec and the balance of the car than go with vanity and something bigger. I suspect on the road, the OE 17" wheels would be a sweeter drive.

Michelin don't list 255 40 17s in ps4. If avalable in this size I would fit so I feel that I will have to fit the much older but recommended ps2.

I've got Contis on mine(2001 3.4) but they will need replacing next year and I'll be getting PS4s as they seem to get rave reviews and don't cost the earth

Mine came on those P Zeros - absolutely hated them TBH, always thought the steering lacked a bit of bite .... was glad to see the back of them!

Tyres are a very personal thing however....

I’m on 265/30/18 on the back

TinRobot, don't forget that recommendation was made 20 years ago.......and tyres are constantly being improved.

I had PZeros, now have Michelins (PS4 and PS2) and they are significantly better (esp. in the wet). PS4S will be next.
