I know this was talked to death many years ago and has now gone very quite.... I am interested to find out if anyone changed from a DMF to a single mass lightweight flywheel setup on their GT3's and did you have any problems?
I changed to a single mass lightweight flywheel setup on both my 996.1 & 996.2 GT3's had no problems, loved it and never looked back. I have an itch to do the same on my 997.1 GT3...
Thoughts?

- 4.0 RS clutch disc
- Throw-out bearing
- Pilot bearing
- Guide tube and screws
- Flywheel bolts
- Pressure plate bolts
- Ring gear
- 4.0 RS pressure plate
- 4.0 RS light weight flywheel
- GT3RS Crank Pulley
- Bolt and washer
Do l need anything else?

Can anyone tell me what the real benefits of a LMF are? I mean, the real benefits (over and above the feel of owning one ;-)I cannot think of any, to be honest. It does not make the car any faster. It makes the downshifts more difficult (if you blip, then the revs fall down faster, which makes it more difficult to keep the revs in synch during heel-and-toe). It tortures the crankshaft. And it is expensive.But given there are so many convinced forum posters, I‘d be interested in their opinion.

Well for starters, it doesn't "torture" the crankshaft. The Mezger bottom end is a tough old thing, and Porsche have been fitting lightweight flywheels to this bottom end in its various guises since the 964 RS back in 1992, then subsequently the 993 RS, the Mk1 996 GT3 Clubsport. the Mk2 GT3/RS and then the various 997 iterations (the Cup cars use an even lighter flywheel/clutch package, so there's nothing you can throw at a road/occasional track use car that a Cup car crankshaft won't have been subjected to by some hairy arsed,knuckle dragging, race car driver But given there are so many convinced forum posters, I‘d be interested in their opinion.

They're not that expensive, and in my experience they drastically improve throttle response, but if you haven't the time to re-learn your H & T technique, they're probably best avoided.

The SMFW makes the engine more responsive and I find heal and toeing much easier in my RS than in the vanilla GT3 (both 7.2)But given there are so many convinced forum posters, I‘d be interested in their opinion.

It is certainly one of the things I think could be improved upon with my 7.1 GT3.
There's no mistaking the feel and sound of a lighter flywheel, the more unrefined idle and the swiftness to add and lose engine speed. Definitely one of the many things I would consider taking away from standard spec.
Brakes first though!
