Hi all,

Still getting to know my GT3, is it normal to have some harshness at 4.0-4.25k rpm, very smooth and sweet to 3.5k then there is a little harshness/vibration around 4k, which disappears by 4.3k. Just checking this is normal, sweat below and above

Nope. Sounds like it's absolutely f**ked. I'll take it off your hands for a fair price though.....smile

991.1 or 991.2 GT3....?? Can only comment on the latter, which makes no such noise iirc.....

991.1, Tks

About 4k it sounds or rather feels a bit harsh and has some very small vibration/NVH around 4k

Just checked mine a few times and nothing like you describe - its smooth all the way. Might be a loose under tray bolt? The exhaust valves open around that rpm so maybe some lubrication on the outside arms that open them could be an idea as well.

Thanks, it seems just before the exhaust valves open, I will be taking the car to JZM for a suspension set up I'll see what they think, might be something loose somewhere, although it does feel like the engine causing it rather than something vibrating through being loose

Disconnect the valves which is a two minute job and see if problem is solved.

I haven't been able to solve this problem. no one seems to think there is anything wrong. I think I need to drive another GT3 and see how it compares to another 991.1 GT3

I have been ignoring it and enjoying the car, but it's starting to annoy me again. definitely at 4k the harshness comes in. I have been driving through it. How do you disconnect the valves on the exhaust ?

If it's the same operating principal as the 997.2 PSE, the easiest way to disable DME controlling the valves and keep the valves open (i.e. loud), is to disconnect the electrical connector on the vacuum solenoid valve. Don't ask me where that is on the 991 GT3 but on the 997.2 its on the RHS of the intake manifold.

Surely a GT3 is all about Noise, Vibration and Harshness?? It's in its DNA smile

All GT3's and RS that I have owned have made noises from all areas, engine and drivetrain included. Not saying that you don't have a specific issue, but noise is what the car is all about.

If in doubt, then get your local OPC to check, as your engine has a 10 year warranty smile

A big plus 1..

I wouldn’t worry too much. My Gen1 made different noises on all different drive outs.

But check in with a OPC, due to it having the 10yr warranty....

I'd have thought JZM would have been able to diagnose this for you....they must have had an awful lot of 991.1's either through their showroom or workshop by now! What did they say ?

Interesting I agree, they did take it out for the suspension test and found no issues, but the time there was more about suspension settings.

I remain surprised this harshness hasn't been commented on, even in passing. It is as notifiable as the amazing shriek at 8,500 - 9,000 rpm. The diff chatter is noted and much less obtrusive than in something like my old 964 RS and less 'irritating' than the 4k harshness.

I will try the exhaust but don't think it's that. I will try to take another 991.1 out and really see for myself !
